The program aims to increase productivity and competitiveness by providing access to the latest technology and connectivity solutions, including IoT devices and digital monitoring products, all aimed to be monitored from a farmer’s mobile device. The government aims to boost the primary industries sector from its current value of $23.1 billion to $30 billion by 2030 through the widespread adoption of technology and connectivity. The program has been developed in partnership with Tocal Agricultural College, a leading provider of specialized training for the agricultural and rural industries.
The New South Wales (NSW) government in Australia supports its agriculture sector with a $20 million grant as part of the Farms of the Future program. The program aims to increase productivity and competitiveness among farmers by providing them with access to the latest technology and connectivity solutions. The grants, ranging up to $35,000, will help farmers select the devices that best suit their operations from a dedicated Agtech Catalogue website. This website features IoT devices, digital monitoring products, and connectivity solutions from 50 selected suppliers to help farmers monitor their farms from their mobile devices.
The program aims to boost the primary industries sector valued at $23.1 billion despite challenges in recent years. The NSW government is confident that this sector can reach $30 billion by 2030 by encouraging farmers to embrace technology and connectivity solutions.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, Paul Toole, highlighted the importance of the ag sector in innovation and how the fund will help producers tap into the latest technology. He said a grant of up to $35,000 could put these technologies within reach for hundreds of farm businesses, unlocking cost savings and increased productivity.
Minister for Agriculture Dugald Saunders believes that embracing on-farm technology will help take agriculture in NSW to the next level. He said that the widespread use of agricultural technology and digital connectivity would help drive substantial growth, benefiting both farmers and regional communities.
