PepsiCo announced today that it had invested $216 million over several years in long-term strategic partnerships with three respected farmer-facing organizations to accelerate the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices across the United States. These partnerships will provide education, funding, technical support, peer coaching, and networking to support the U.S. farming community as it transitions to regenerative agriculture practices. Practical Farmers of Iowa, Soil and Water Outcomes Fund, and the IL Corn Growers Association are the three organizations with which PepsiCo has partnered. PepsiCo aims to support the farming community as it makes changes that secure production volumes, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and cultivate quality, bountiful crops to feed the world’s growing population.
By 2030, PepsiCo expects these collaborations to support adopting regenerative practices on more than three million acres, delivering about three million metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and removals. Through these partnerships, PepsiCo will work with PFI to reach about 1.5 million acres, SWOF to reach nearly 1 million, and ICGA to reach about 600,000. Based on progress, these collaborative efforts are expected to deliver more than 500,000 regenerative acres by the end of 2023. PepsiCo’s strategic investment in these organizations is vital to supporting the U.S. farming community as it transitions to regenerative agriculture practices.
According to Jim Andrew, PepsiCo’s Chief Sustainability Officer, partnering with organizations that have earned farmers’ trust as they transition to adopting climate-smart agriculture practices is critical. PepsiCo aims to work alongside farmers as they strive to make soil healthier, sequester carbon, improve watershed health and biodiversity, and enhance their livelihoods. As the largest food and beverage company in North America and the second largest globally, PepsiCo believes that a resilient food system is essential to meeting its ambitious pep+ targets, including driving the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices across seven million acres by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
