Capsum Creates a Vertical Farming Facility In Texas Production Site

Capsum partners with Orium

French cosmetics company, Capsum furthers its development in vertical farming for cosmetics as they’ve partnered with French Start-up Orius to design and build a facility to grow plants for its manufacturing site in Austin, Texas.

As reported by Premium Beauty News, Capsum continues to invest in the indoor production of plant ingredients. The integration of plant ingredient production capabilities into Capsum’s manufacturing facility in Texas will allow the company to control the entire design chain, ultimately creating Seed-to-Face cosmetics.

The facility is according to the company, designed to be self-sufficient in water and energy and includes an 8,000 sqm solar panels capacity installed on its roof. As per the release, the company aims to start with the production of sunflower micro-pods and quickly expand to other naturally derived active ingredients, including flower and root extracts.

Capsum participated in Orius’s funding round in 2021

Indeed, the company took part in a funding round in 2021 to further the growth of the Toulouse-based company.

Both companies are convinced that the use of Precision Indoor Farming offers a solution to the multiple constraints related to the creation of new cosmetic ingredients: reconciling naturalness and performance, contributing to Clean Beauty, offering a model of sustainability, bringing better transparency and guaranteeing the sourcing of ingredients, securing the supply chain, contributing to the uniqueness of brands.

“For the installation of our vertical precision farm in Austin, USA, Capsum chose Orius, for its skills and qualifications in high-tech agriculture. During this project, the sharing of knowledge and our common ambition was such that our two teams decided to join forces to transform the beauty industry using Precision Indoor Farming,” explains Sébastien Bardon, CEO of Capsum in an interview with Premium Beauty News.

As the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors are evolving with similar trends and constraints, Capsum believes that Orius’ prospects are promising beyond beauty.
