Moleaer Reports On Trial Results With Nanobubbles Used By Strawberry Growers

Moleaer reported the results of a trial on strawberry growth. A test conducted by Aardbeienkwekerij Penninx showed promising results, demonstrating that the nanobubble treatment resulted in significantly higher oxygen levels in the irrigation water and drip lines, reduced biofilm and contamination, and lowered levels of Pythium and Phytophthora.

According to Michiel Penninx, the lead grower at Aardbeienkwekerij Penninx, organic contamination tends to rise in specific periods. For instance, when watering is reduced in early spring, the water stays in the system for longer durations, leading to contamination in pipes, filters, and drippers. Additionally, in the summer, the temperature in the day tank rises rapidly while oxygen levels decrease, which results in increased organic contamination.

The trial was conducted on a 1-hectare glasshouse where strawberries were grown using Elsanta variety everbearers and fresh crops followed by everbearers. The company faced organic contamination in the irrigation system, particularly in early spring and summer. In early 2022, Penninx conducted a trial with a Moleaer nanobubble generator, which transfers gas at over 85% efficiency to ensure high levels of dissolved oxygen in the water.

Per the results reported by the company, the results of the Fragaria Innova measurements revealed that the levels of Pythium and Phytophthora were higher without nanobubble treatment. Moreover, a noticeable difference was observed between the control group and the nanobubble treatment group in terms of biofilm and other forms of contamination in the water system. The nanobubble-enriched water system showed significantly lower levels of biofilm and contamination, indicating the effectiveness of the treatment. Before the installation of Moleaer’s nanobubble generator, the water in the tank was murky and unclear. However, the water became utterly transparent after the building, even when the water level was as deep as 2 meters. This improvement demonstrates the efficiency of the nanobubble treatment in reducing organic contamination and improving the quality of the water.

The nanobubble treatment also positively impacted the root development of the strawberries, resulting in a more evenly developed root pattern with more young, thin roots and a more extensive root volume on the outside. This is essential for healthy plant growth and optimal fruit production. Using nanobubbles also reduced the need for frequent cleaning of filters, and the day tank remained clear, almost without any trace of organic contamination.
