AeroFarms Microgreens Now Available Across Harris Teeter Locations

Boosting Freshness and Reducing Food Waste with Local Indoor Farming

DANVILLE, Va. (July 29, 2025) – AeroFarms, a leader in indoor vertical farming and the largest U.S. supplier of microgreens to retail markets, has announced its expanded retail partnership with Harris Teeter. The company’s signature Micro Broccoli, Rainbow Mix, Micro Kale, and Super Mix microgreens are now available in all Harris Teeter stores across Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

Notably, 20 Harris Teeter stores are located within 90 miles of AeroFarms’ high-tech facility in Danville, Virginia. This proximity supports a fresher, more sustainable produce supply and offers consumers year-round access to locally grown microgreens.

Shorter Supply Chains, Longer Shelf Life

Danville-Based Farming Cuts Food Miles and Extends Freshness

Traditional U.S. leafy greens typically travel over 1,500 miles from farms in California and Arizona to reach East Coast consumers—an inefficient model that contributes to spoilage and food loss. According to the USDA, approximately 31% of the national food supply is lost in transit, storage, and retail.

AeroFarms addresses this challenge by delivering directly from its Danville facility to regional Harris Teeter distribution centers, cutting travel time and enabling faster delivery. “The adjacency of our farm in Virginia to Harris Teeter’s distribution centers translates to longer shelf-life, shorter transportation routes, and, ultimately, more time for shoppers to use and enjoy our microgreens,” said Dane Almassy, SVP of Sales & Marketing at AeroFarms.

With a shelf life of 18 to 23 days—among the longest in the industry—AeroFarms microgreens can remain fresh in consumers’ homes for up to two weeks.

Nutrient-Rich, Ready-to-Eat Microgreens

Convenience and Health Benefits in Every Package

AeroFarms’ indoor farming model uses no soil or pesticides, producing clean microgreens that require no washing before use. These greens are not just convenient—they’re also highly nutritious. According to AeroFarms, their products can deliver 4 to 40 times the nutrient density of their full-grown vegetable counterparts, including higher concentrations of essential vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients.

With a mild, diverse flavor profile, the microgreens are ideal for salads, sandwiches, smoothies, and garnishes—pairing well with other Harris Teeter-branded products.

Supporting Local, Sustainable Food Systems

Harris Teeter and AeroFarms Bring Innovation to the Produce Aisle

This partnership aligns with AeroFarms’ mission to scale sustainable food systems and provide communities with local access to fresh, healthy produce. The collaboration supports food resiliency in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond, while also contributing to reduced environmental impact through shorter supply chains.
