Supporting Regenerative Agriculture During Organic Month

Throughout Organic Month, Natural Grocers will encourage customers to contribute to its goal of raising $100,000 for Rodale Institute by September 30, 2024. Funds raised will go directly to Rodale Institute’s Farmer Training programs, which provide education and hands-on experience to aspiring organic farmers.

Customers can participate in the fundraising effort by purchasing limited-edition Organic Month reusable shopping bags, with $1 from each sale going to the organization. Additionally, for every Ladybug Zip Pouch sold, Natural Grocers will donate $2. Shoppers can also contribute directly by adding $1, $5, or $10 donations at checkout across Natural Grocers’ 169 store locations.

Commitment to Organic Integrity

Natural Grocers has been a leader in providing organic and natural products since its founding in 1955. All of its stores are Certified Organic Food Handlers, ensuring that organic-approved processes and products are maintained from farm to table. This commitment extends to its partnership with Rodale Institute, as both organizations share a focus on promoting sustainable and organic agricultural practices.

“We are thrilled to partner with Rodale Institute,” said Raquel Isely, Vice President of Marketing at Natural Grocers. “Their work in advancing organic agriculture through science and farmer support is vital for creating a healthier food system. We are proud to dedicate this year’s Organic Month Fundraiser Campaign to their efforts.”

Training the Next Generation of Organic Farmers

Rodale Institute’s Farmer Training programs, including the Rodale Institute Farmer Training (RIFT) and Veteran Farmer Training (VFT) programs, are immersive educational initiatives that prepare participants for careers in regenerative organic agriculture. The programs cover a wide range of skills, from soil science and financial management to hands-on farming techniques, all taught on Rodale Institute’s experimental farm.

Annie Brown, Vice President of Development, emphasized the importance of these programs: “We need more organic farmers to meet the growing demand for organic products. Our training programs are designed to equip new farmers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in regenerative organic agriculture. The support from Natural Grocers and their customers will be instrumental in advancing this mission.”
