Benson Hill Unveils Second Annual ESG Report

Benson Hill Inc., a prominent food tech company focused on harnessing the natural genetic diversity of plants, has unveiled its second annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. This release demonstrates Benson Hill’s ongoing commitment to transparency and provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s data, milestones, and strategic partnerships since its inaugural ESG Report.

Deanie Elsner, Interim CEO and Board Member of Benson Hill emphasizes the need to surpass food security and strive for nutrition security. Elsner believes it is time to go beyond what is possible and work towards better nutrition. The ESG Report showcases how Benson Hill is delivering on this commitment by developing improved food options and contributing to the demand for enhanced nutrition.

The online report includes a materiality assessment and highlights key initiatives and accomplishments from 2022. These achievements exemplify Benson Hill’s vision of revolutionizing the food system.

Some notable highlights include:

Benson Hill has incorporated data from its newly acquired processing facilities in Creston, Iowa, and Seymour, Indiana. This addition provides a comprehensive evaluation of the closed-loop model’s performance and showcases the practices adopted for greater efficiency and impact.

Benson Hill has partnered with ADM to scale innovative ultra-high protein soy for North American food ingredient markets. This collaboration leverages Benson Hill’s proprietary Ultra-High Protein Soybeans and ADM’s production and commercial capabilities to meet the growing demand for alternative protein sources.

The company has entered the rapidly growing European aquaculture market through partnerships with BioMar and Denofa, leading sustainable aquaculture feed solution providers. The collaboration aims to assess the sustainability impact of Benson Hill soy on high-performance aquafeed formulations.

Benson Hill’s Veri™ brand cooking oil, sourced from Midwest-grown proprietary soybeans, has been selected by Schnuck Markets Inc., a grocery retail chain. This partnership showcases Benson Hill’s commitment to providing sustainable and high-quality products.

Benson Hill has achieved the international ProTerra Certification, making it one of the first U.S.-based soy ingredient providers to do so. This certification recognizes sustainable agricultural practices, deforestation-free initiatives, biodiversity efforts, fair labor practices, and segregated non-GMO programs. The company has also joined the ProTerra Network, a group of companies dedicated to continuous improvement and sustainable practices. Additionally, Benson Hill has become a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), aligning itself with customers’ objectives and contributing to the company’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
