Clean Energy Brings New RNG Production Facility Online
Clean Energy has announced the successful completion of its renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at South Fork Dairy in Dimmitt, Texas. The plant, now producing pipeline-quality RNG, has begun injection into the interstate natural gas pipeline.
The facility, financed entirely by Clean Energy, represents an $85 million investment and is among the nation’s largest RNG production sites. South Fork Dairy houses approximately 17,500 cows and is capable of producing around 2.6 million gallons of low-carbon RNG per year.
Clay Corbus, Senior Vice President at Clean Energy, said, “The completion of the project at South Fork is particularly special because not only is it a major step forward in building our low-carbon RNG supply… but we were able to work side-by-side with such a remarkable dairyman in Frank Brand.”
Clean Energy Highlights Circular Benefits for Agriculture
Designed to process up to 300,000 gallons of dairy manure per day, the facility uses four anaerobic digesters along with advanced gas-conversion equipment. The RNG produced is injected directly into an on-site gas line, and Clean Energy will receive 100 percent of the output.
Frank Brand, owner of South Fork Dairy, commented: “Partnering with Clean Energy to build an RNG facility on the dairy has been a success for us… Being a part of something so circular that allows the dairy to reduce its emissions while providing an additional income stream is an added bonus.”
Construction temporarily paused due to a fire impacting the dairy, but operations at both the dairy and the RNG facility have since been fully restored.
Regulatory Approvals Advance Clean Energy’s RNG Expansion
The RNG produced at South Fork Dairy has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for generating Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) under the Renewable Fuel Standard. Clean Energy expects to generate California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits in Q1 2026.
