Cropcision Secures Investment from Northern Light Capital and Partnerinvest Norr
Umeå-based AgTech company Cropcision has successfully closed a seed funding round with participation from Northern Light Capital (NLC) and Partnerinvest Norr. The investment will help the company scale its operations and advance production of its plastic-free, controlled-release fertilizer technology.
“Cropcision welcomes the investment from Northern Light Capital and Partnerinvest Norr with an aligned vision for growth,” said Jonathan Love, CEO and co-founder of Cropcision. “This step allows us to hire key personnel and expand our operations in agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. We are proud of the technology developed in collaboration with Associate Professor and co-founder Michael Holmboe from Umeå University.”
Investor Support and Strategic Expansion Plans
Both investors expressed confidence in Cropcision’s potential to make a meaningful impact on sustainable fertilizer production: “We’ve followed Cropcision closely and believe in its business model and the positive sustainability impact it brings to the fertilizer industry,” said Gustav Paringer, Investment Partner at NLC and the newly appointed Chairman of the Board. “We look forward to continued collaboration with Jonathan and the Cropcision team.”
The company, supported by the Umeå Biotech Incubator, plans to use the funding to expand its research and commercial reach across multiple sectors, including forestry and greenhouse agriculture.
Cropcision's Product Preparing for Upcoming EU Regulations
Cropcision’s innovation arrives at a pivotal moment for the fertilizer industry. In 2028, the European Union will ban non-biodegradable polymers in fertilizers due to concerns over microplastic pollution. Cropcision’s solution provides a sustainable and cost-effective alternative by removing plastics entirely from controlled-release formulations.
“From the outset, we aimed to solve a big problem with the most simple and robust solution possible,” said Jonathan Love. “In this sector, there is no such thing as sustainability without affordability.”
Field Trials and Market Readiness
Cropcision’s first commercial product, Silvivo, was launched last year to support forest seedling establishment. The company is conducting field trials with leading forestry partners in Sweden and has achieved proof of concept in Eucalyptus, the world’s most widely planted hardwood species.
“Given current geopolitical drivers of high and uncertain fertilizer prices, there has never been a better time to offer farmers, foresters, and greenhouse growers a way to improve efficiency and productivity while meeting environmental objectives,” said Love.
With new funding and field validation, Cropcision is positioning itself for international expansion and broader market adoption.
