Key Takeaways:
- DPH Biologicals has identified the mode of action of its AmplAphex biofertilizer, supporting its use in helping plants tolerate abiotic stress such as salinity and temperature extremes.
- Multi-year field trials in corn showed average yield increases of up to 6 bushels per acre, including when used in foliar applications and as a partial replacement for starter fertilizers.
- AmplAphex is part of the RegenAphex™ Technology Platform, developed from the earlier SP-1 Classic® product.
- The product is available in a liquid formulation with a lower use rate and is compatible with standard herbicide and fertilizer programs.
- AmplAphex is designed for both conventional and organic farming systems, and is formulated to support plant vigor, nutrient efficiency, and soil structure.
DPH Biologicals Shares New Data on AmplAphex Biofertilizer Performance and Mode of Action
DPH Biologicals® (Profile) has released findings from a multi-year trial program and a mode of action (MOA) study for its product TerraTrove® AmplAphex™, a biofertilizer developed under the company’s RegenAphex™ Technology Platform.
According to the company, the research supports AmplAphex’s role in promoting crop performance and helping plants tolerate environmental stress. The results are based on studies conducted with third-party research partners, including Eurofins Bio Diagnostics, and field trials across multiple growing seasons.
Mode of Action Supports Abiotic Stress Tolerance
The MOA study conducted by Eurofins Bio Diagnostics examined the effects of AmplAphex when applied as a foliar spray. Results indicate that the product may support plants in managing abiotic stresses, including salinity and temperature fluctuations.
“When I first started working with biological technologies, many of the products were simply positioned for plant health or yield benefits without knowing why,” said Alex Cochran, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer at DPH Biologicals. “These studies help provide an explanation for the observed outcomes, particularly in foliar applications.”
DPH Biologicals’ Field Trials Show Yield Response in Corn Applications
DPH Biologicals also released data from multi-year corn trials, showing:
- A 5.8 bushel per acre yield increase when AmplAphex was applied with foliar herbicides
- Comparable or improved yields when AmplAphex replaced up to 50% of standard starter fertilizer
- A 6 bushel per acre yield increase with a reported 90% win rate when used alongside a full starter fertilizer program
The trials were conducted across multiple geographies and are intended to support decision-making for growers evaluating alternative or supplemental crop input options.
Product Formulation and Application Flexibility
AmplAphex is a low-use-rate liquid formulation designed for tank-mix compatibility with fertilizers and herbicides. It is intended for use in both conventional and organic production systems.
According to DPH Biologicals, the product is formulated to support:
- Plant vigor and nutrient use efficiency
- Soil structure and water retention
- Stress mitigation during early growth stages
