FoodChain ID Certifies Buongrano’s Regenerative Wheat Flour

FoodChain ID has announced that Mulino Bianco’s Buongrano is now certified to its Regenerative Agriculture (RGN) Standard, marking the first bakery product in Italy to carry this certification. The verification confirms that the soft wheat used in Buongrano cookies was produced using agricultural practices designed to improve soil quality, support biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience.

The certification is outcome-based and provides third-party assurance of regenerative results rather than prescribing a specific set of farming methods. The RGN logo will appear on Buongrano’s packaging, signaling to consumers that the product’s raw materials have been independently verified against measurable environmental outcomes.

About the FoodChain ID Regenerative Agriculture Standard

The FoodChain ID Regenerative Agriculture Certification is an ISO 17065-aligned framework designed to measure and verify environmental progress in farming systems. It promotes practices that restore soil health, sequester carbon, and maintain ecosystem balance, while including traceability options to link production with market claims.

“Buongrano’s certification demonstrates how regenerative practices can be verified transparently,” said Dr. Chetan Parmar, Senior Vice President of Technical Services for Europe and Asia at FoodChain ID. “Our outcome-based approach helps companies evaluate and report tangible progress toward sustainability goals.”

Mulino Bianco’s Regenerative Farming Efforts

The Buongrano project began in 2018 as part of La Carta del Mulino, a framework developed by Mulino Bianco to encourage more sustainable wheat cultivation in Italy. The initiative set goals related to product quality, biodiversity protection, and fair working relationships with farmers.

Following the RGN certification, Buongrano’s soft wheat flour now meets internationally recognized regenerative criteria. Mulino Bianco, part of the Barilla Group, has stated that it intends to expand regenerative wheat sourcing across all product lines by 2030.
