IIT Roorkee & Accel1's Strategic Collaboration to Accelerate Climate Engineering Innovation
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Accel1 Inc., a climate engineering company focused on commercializing advanced climate technologies. The agreement reinforces IIT Roorkee’s emphasis on innovation-driven growth and global collaboration, while supporting Accel1’s efforts to scale research-led climate solutions through structured partnerships with academic institutions.
Facilitated under the guidance of Prof. Abhyanand Singh Maurya of IIT Roorkee, the MoU establishes a framework for collaboration across deep-tech climate innovation, start-up acceleration, technology transfer, capacity building, and market-oriented research.
Focus on Regenerative Agriculture and Climate Resilience
A central pillar of the partnership is the application of advanced climate engineering technologies to address challenges across regenerative agriculture, water resilience, pollution mitigation, and sustainable infrastructure. By linking academic research with real-world deployment pathways, the collaboration seeks to develop solutions that deliver environmental, societal, and economic impact.
The agreement supports joint efforts to translate laboratory research into scalable applications, particularly in sectors where climate adaptation and resource efficiency are becoming increasingly critical.
Strengthening Industry–Academia and Start-Up Pathways
Under the MoU, IIT Roorkee and Accel1 may undertake joint initiatives including start-up acceleration programs, innovation challenges, mentorship and incubation support, collaborative research projects, and climate and sustainability pilot programs. These activities are intended to strengthen the commercialization pipeline for early-stage ventures and applied research outcomes.
The partnership is also expected to provide IIT Roorkee students, researchers, and affiliated start-ups with access to industry networks, global best practices, and structured pathways for technology deployment.
Alignment With National and Global Innovation Priorities
The collaboration aligns with key Indian initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, Startup India, Make in India, and Digital India, while contributing to broader global priorities around climate innovation and sustainability.
“This partnership with Accel1 reflects IIT Roorkee’s strategic focus on transforming cutting-edge research into real-world impact,” said Prof. K. K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee. He noted that strengthening industry and start-up linkages is central to advancing climate engineering and sustainable technologies.
Sanjay Kommera, CEO of Accel1 Inc., added that partnering with a premier academic institution enables the company to accelerate the translation of research into scalable technologies and start-ups, particularly in areas such as regenerative agriculture, water resilience, and pollution control.
