Strong International Participation at Inhouse Farming Convention 2025
The first edition of the Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention concluded successfully on October 1, 2025, at the Congress Centre Hamburg. Organized by the DLG, the event attracted around 250 participants representing more than nine countries. It served as a business conference and exhibition platform dedicated to exploring innovative models in the agricultural and food value chain.
Sessions covered advances in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), including indoor and vertical farming, aquaculture, insect production, and cellular agriculture. The convention highlighted the growing role of technology, sustainability, and circular systems in shaping the next generation of food production.
DLG President Hubertus Paetow described the event as a milestone in promoting sustainable productivity, emphasizing that “growth and resource conservation should be viewed as a single entity.”
Workshops Highlight Future-Oriented Food and Farming Models
Across 20 sessions and workshops, industry experts, researchers, and policymakers examined trends and challenges in agricultural innovation. Topics ranged from alternative protein sources and circular economy models to automation, artificial intelligence, and market transformation.
According to DLG, the discussions reflected how the agricultural and food industries are undergoing a structural shift that demands new business models, cross-sector collaboration, and bold thinking. The convention encouraged interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange among participants from science, business, and farming practice.
Rapid Fire Start-up Pitch Showcases Emerging AgTech Solutions
A key highlight of the convention was the Rapid Fire Start-up Pitch, held on the second day in cooperation with Rootcamp and Rentenbank. The competition, themed “Shaping the Future of Nutrition – with Innovations in CEA and Alternative Proteins,” featured seven early-stage companies.
MySpirulina, a Kiel-based startup developing algae cultivation systems for home and commercial use, won first place. Bluu Seafood, a Hamburg producer of cultivated fish, placed second, while Revoja from Bad Vilbel earned third place for its innovative soy-based products. The format attracted strong interest among attendees, underscoring the growing visibility of startups in sustainable food production.
Exhibition and Networking Opportunities Support Industry Collaboration
The foyer exhibition accompanying the conference allowed companies to showcase market-ready technologies and practical applications. Participants engaged directly with suppliers and innovators, exploring solutions related to production efficiency, energy use, and alternative protein development. A Novel Food tasting segment also offered attendees hands-on exposure to emerging food concepts.
DLG’s Division Manager for Energy, Inhouse Farming, and New Foods, Marcus Vagt, noted that the event “exceeded expectations” and confirmed the increasing international relevance of in-house farming as part of tomorrow’s food systems.
Inhouse Farming Positive Feedback and Plans for Future Editions
Exhibitors and attendees expressed strong satisfaction with the event’s organization and content. Körber Technologies GmbH and FarmTech Society both cited the convention’s emphasis on open discussion and networking as key advantages of the format.
“The convention format creates time and space for genuine exchange,” said Tom Zoellner, Secretary General of FarmTech Society, adding that the event’s atmosphere fostered meaningful collaboration.
Given the success of the 2025 edition, DLG announced that the Inhouse Farming – Feed & Food Convention will now be held every two years, alternating with the Inhouse Farming Show at EuroTier in Hanover. The next convention is scheduled for 2027, reinforcing its role as a platform for advancing sustainable food and farming innovation.
