Locus Fermentation Secures Funding

A $117 million debt financing deal backed by IP insurance has been secured by Locus Fermentation Solutions (Locus FS), a green technology business specializing in creating biological substitutes for chemicals that enhance decarbonization aims. With this most recent investment round, the firm has now raised more than $250 million in total, enabling them to advance its goal of offering environmentally friendly solutions across diverse industries.

The worth of Locus Fermentation Solutions’ intellectual property (IP) and collection of more than 1,300 patent applications for biomanufacturing technologies were significant factors in the investment. To minimize any potential risks, Markel, Liberty Specialty Markets, CNA, Aspen, and Fidelis all participated in a collateral insurance coverage based on Locus FS’s IP. In addition, its intellectual property was valued by Aon, a global professional services firm renowned for its cutting-edge valuation expertise.

Since its founding in 2013, Locus FS has achieved tremendous progress in converting biologicals derived from only 100% renewable agricultural resources into chemical-free alternatives with improved performance and cost parameters. Unique microorganisms and the biosurfactants they create are isolated and fermented as part of the company’s biomanufacturing strategy. The resultant biologicals are explicitly made for use in a variety of chemical-dependent industries, including agriculture, energy, mining, industry, CPG, and others.

The healthier, more environmentally friendly biological elements in Locus FS increase profitability and aid in decarbonizing many industries. In addition, these biologicals are intended to achieve ESG objectives, including lowering greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing food security, hastening the development of clean-label products, delaying the deforestation of palm trees, and promoting the switch to sustainable energy. In actuality, Locus FS is actively furthering 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and assisting customers in fulfilling their sector-specific net-zero obligations.

With eleven locations across five states and over 160 employees, Locus FS is a global pioneer in non-GMO, palm-free, low-carbon biobased products. Locus FS has been able to speed up the time it takes to provide practical solutions to the market by maximizing the potential worth of its intangible assets, such as its intellectual property.

To assist IP-rich businesses like Locus Fermentation Solutions in harnessing the potential value of their intangible assets, Aon works with them, particularly in the green tech sector. They can speed up bringing these crucial solutions to market by doing this. As a result, locus FS will play a significant part in the decarbonization of numerous industries and assist in realizing a more sustainable future for everybody as it continues to develop and broaden its capabilities.
