Provectus Algae Raises Series A to Advance Climate-Responsive Livestock Feed

Provectus Algae, an Australian biotech startup specializing in algae-based bioproducts, announced it has raised US$10.1 million in Series A funding, along with US$2.5 million in grant support from the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Program. The funding will allow the company to scale its flagship product, Surf’N’Turf®, a livestock feed supplement designed to reduce methane emissions from ruminant animals.

The round was led by At One Ventures, with additional participation from Methane Mitigation, Mort & Co, and existing investors including Hitachi Ventures. Tom Chi, Founding Partner of At One Ventures, will join the Provectus Board of Directors.

“Animal agriculture generates more emissions than any other industry, and Provectus Algae’s high-yield production offers an economic pathway to substantially solve for these emissions while improving the livelihoods of farmers and ranchers,” said Chi.

Scaling Surf’N’Turf®: A Precision Biotech Solution

Provectus Algae’s platform uses proprietary Precision Photosynthesis® and AI-enabled biomanufacturing to optimize algae strains for high-performance industrial and agricultural applications. Its product Surf’N’Turf® features a specific type of seaweed that has demonstrated effectiveness in improving rumen digestion and reducing methane emissions generated during enteric fermentation in cattle.

With the new funding, the company aims to scale production, conduct the world’s largest pilot trials, and begin supplying large volumes of Surf’N’Turf® to global livestock markets.

Industry Partnerships to Test Environmental and Performance Benefits

Mort & Co, one of Australia’s largest lot feeding companies, has partnered with Provectus Algae to trial the feed supplement. “With the ability to scale production and tailor products for our animals and operations, we have partnered with Provectus Algae to conduct trials of their product designed to reduce methane emissions and increase cattle performance,” said Charlie Mort, Executive Chairman of Mort & Co.

The trials will evaluate both environmental impact and potential gains in animal productivity—key concerns for commercial agriculture.

Australian Government Grant Supports Biomanufacturing Growth

The additional AU$2.5 million Commercialisation and Growth grant from the Industry Growth Program aims to bolster Australia’s high-growth startups. It will help Provectus Algae accelerate commercial deployment and manufacturing scale-up of its bioproducts.

“This milestone is a testament to our team’s determination and their desire to deliver lasting advancements in sustainable biomanufacturing,” said Nusqe Spanton, Founder and CEO of Provectus Algae. “With Tom Chi coming aboard and Mort & Co’s strategic backing, our team has become even stronger as we scale the world’s best methane-reducing feed supplement.”
