Safe Pro Group and NIBULON to Use AI for Farmland Demining in Ukraine
Addressing Ukraine’s Agriculture Crisis
Safe Pro Group Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAI) has entered into a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NIBULON Ltd. to support Ukraine’s agriculture sector, which has suffered billions in damages due to the ongoing war.
Safe Pro will deploy SpotlightAI™, its AI-powered drone demining system, to survey farmlands for landmines and UXO, accelerating the process of reclaiming arable land for Ukrainian farmers.
According to NASA Harvest, between 5.2 and 6.9 million acres of farmland have been abandoned due to war, costing Ukraine an estimated $2 billion in lost crops in 2023, food that could have fed 25 million people for a year.
“Our agreement with NIBULON is critical to our mission to support global food security and the safety of those denied their land and livelihood as we seek to urgently restore Ukraine’s agricultural productivity,” said Dan Erdberg, Chairman and CEO of Safe Pro Group Inc.
SpotlightAI™: AI-Powered Demining for Faster Land Reclamation
Using AI to Identify Landmines and UXO
Safe Pro and NIBULON will develop demining methodologies that integrate SpotlightAI™ with commercial drones. This will allow NIBULON’s drone teams to produce high-resolution maps pinpointing mine locations, improving efficiency compared to traditional manual UXO detection.
By replacing time-consuming human analysis with SpotlightAI™’s AI-driven small object detection, land surveys can be completed in seconds instead of minutes per image.
Safe Pro’s AI models have already analyzed 931,107 drone images, detecting 18,300 explosive remnants of war across 4,255 hectares (10,514 acres).
“Agriculture is a cornerstone of Ukraine’s economy and global food stability, which has been severely disrupted by war. By accelerating our work with Safe Pro, we aim to reclaim agricultural land for food production and share our results with industry stakeholders,” said Mykhailo Rizak, Director of Government Relations at NIBULON.
Scaling Up Demining Efforts
Safe Pro and NIBULON’s collaboration seeks to engage with demining and agriculture industry stakeholders to secure support from international food security organizations.
With more than 139,300 km² of Ukrainian land contaminated by landmines and UXO (equivalent to the size of North Carolina), traditional demining methods would take over a decade and cost more than $35 billion (World Bank, February 2024).
SpotlightAI™ offers an efficient alternative, providing:
- Faster data processing – AI detects UXO in under 0.2 seconds per image.
- Scalability – Processes massive drone imagery data via AWS Cloud.
- High-resolution 2D & 3D maps – GPS-tagged orthomosaic maps for precision demining.
