Save Foods Inc. (NASDAQ: SVFD) , a vanguard in the agri-food tech space, has made headlines with its latest strategic move in the fight against climate change and food waste. As recently announced, the company has joined forces with Nitrousink Ltd., a novel venture focusing primarily on reducing nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, a greenhouse gas with a global warming potential 265 times that of carbon dioxide.
Following a stock exchange agreement, Nitrousink has become a majority-owned subsidiary of Save Foods, marking a significant step in the company’s goal to make agricultural practices more sustainable. In line with the partnership’s terms, Save Foods commits to funding Nitrousink’s R&D efforts with an investment of $1.2 million spread across three years.
The funds will accelerate the commercial application of an innovative solution pioneered at the Volcani Institute. Under the leadership of Dr. Dror Minz, the Institute has made a groundbreaking discovery: two bacteria species found in wheat roots that can naturally reduce N2O emissions.
This discovery is monumental considering the surge of N2O emissions by 30% in the last 40 years, primarily attributed to human activities. Approximately 73% of manufactured N2O emissions are due to agricultural soil management. Given the vast scale of global wheat cultivation, these findings present a promising solution to curb N2O emissions significantly.
David Palach, CEO of Save Foods, emphasized the potential of this partnership, stating, “We believe that Nitrousink will redefine sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship. With Nitrousink’s solution, food production can rise to meet global demands without compromising the planet.”
Dr. Minz echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism for the collaboration’s future: “I believe our combined efforts will mark a significant advancement in the battle against climate change. This is an unparalleled approach to sustainability, and we’re committed to fostering a greener future through sustainable agricultural practices.”
While agriculture remains indispensable for human survival, its environmental implications cannot be ignored. Through its innovative solutions and partnerships like the one with Nitrousink, Save Foods envisions a future where agriculture thrives in harmony with the environment.
