Schneider Electric & Hassan Allam Holding’s Joint Initiative to Pilot Integrated Solutions in El Nouras Village

Schneider Electric, a global provider of digital energy management and automation technologies, has announced a strategic collaboration with Hassan Allam Holding, a regional company specializing in engineering, construction, and sustainable development. The partnership focuses on piloting a Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus project in El Nouras, a rural village in Egypt’s northern Nile Delta, south of Port Said.

The initiative is designed to integrate smart energy and water solutions within a localized agricultural system. Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ platform will be used to monitor and manage the system, which includes a solar-powered greenhouse intended to produce approximately 20 tons of vegetables annually.

Project Objectives and Technical Scope

The pilot aims to address multiple challenges related to resource availability, agricultural productivity, and energy use in rural communities. The project includes the use of renewable energy for irrigation, aiming to reduce reliance on diesel-powered systems while supporting food production.

El Nouras village, home to an estimated 12,000 residents, currently relies on the El-Salam Canal for irrigation. The greenhouse installation will serve as a demonstration of how integrated systems can contribute to agricultural output while reducing carbon emissions in line with Egypt’s Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy 2035 and the country’s Updated Nationally Determined Contributions (2023).

Schneider Electric & Hassan Allam Holding’s Perspectives on Sustainability Goals

During the announcement at Schneider Electric’s “Innovation Day: Buildings of the Future” event in Cairo, both companies outlined their respective roles in advancing digital and sustainable infrastructure.

“This initiative reflects our focus on applying advanced technologies to address community-level challenges,” said Sebastien Riez, CEO of Schneider Electric Northeast Africa and the Levant. “Through partnerships like this, we aim to contribute to national sustainability goals while supporting local development.”

Merette Elsayed, Chief Commercial Officer at Hassan Allam Holding, added: “The collaboration supports the implementation of practical solutions to interlinked water, energy, and food challenges in underserved areas.”

Broader Development Impacts and Policy Alignment

The partnership is intended to contribute to Egypt’s broader development goals, including increased renewable energy adoption, reduced emissions, and enhanced rural livelihoods. In addition to technology deployment, the project aims to create local employment opportunities, build capacity for ongoing operations, and improve resource use efficiency in agriculture.

The companies note that the initiative could inform future efforts in rural development and infrastructure planning. By combining digital technologies with sustainable practices, the pilot offers a model for addressing multi-dimensional development issues in resource-constrained settings.

The collaboration aligns with national priorities under Egypt Vision 2030 and is designed to support the country’s progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Further project evaluations are expected to guide potential scale-up to other communities.
