Taurus Canada Renewable Natural Gas Corp. Secures Alberta TIER Funding
Taurus Canada Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Corp. has been awarded $10 million through the Government of Alberta’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) program. The funding will support construction of a fully integrated anaerobic digestion and carbon sequestration facility in partnership with KCL Cattle Company and Kasko Cattle Co.
The announcement was made at Kasko Farms Headquarters in the presence of Alberta government officials and company representatives. The project is part of a broader $28 million allocation from the TIER program supporting six technology initiatives through Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Industrial Transformation Challenge.
Phillip Abrary, Chairman and CEO of Taurus Canada Renewable Natural Gas Corp., stated: “Their financial support, together with our capital commitment, will allow us to proceed with a pioneering, fully-integrated Renewable Energy and Carbon Capture and Sequestration Project in the heart of Alberta’s cattle farming region.”
Facility to Convert Manure into Renewable Energy
The planned facility will process approximately 130,000 tonnes of livestock manure annually, producing an estimated 360,000 gigajoules (GJ) of renewable natural gas. The process will also generate nutrient-rich digestate for use as fertilizer and capture biogenic carbon dioxide for sequestration.
The RNG produced is expected to supply enough energy to power approximately 4,500 homes. The company estimates that fossil fuel displacement could result in emissions reductions equivalent to removing 3,800 vehicles from the road.
Through anaerobic digestion, manure will be converted into biomethane, which will be injected directly into the natural gas pipeline.
Taurus Canada Renewable Natural Gas Corp. Targets 2028 Operations
Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Grant Hunter, said: “We’re investing in made-in-Alberta projects because nobody innovates faster and better than Albertans.”
Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals, added that Alberta continues to strengthen its position as a global energy supplier through innovation.
Construction of the Taurus Canada Renewable Natural Gas Corp. facility is scheduled to begin this summer, with full operations expected by January 2028. The project is positioned as an integrated renewable energy and agricultural sustainability initiative within Alberta’s cattle sector.
