Virginia’s Commitment to Next-Generation Agriculture: Secretary Lohr to Keynote at CEA Summit East

The 2nd annual edition of the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Summit East is set to commence on September 19-20, 2023, at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) Institute Conference Center in Danville, VA. Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr will inaugurate the event with a keynote address.

A Platform for Innovation and Growth

The CEA Summit East, co-hosted by Indoor Ag-Con, the most significant vertical farming and CEA gathering, and the CEA Innovation Center, aims to foster collaboration and innovation within the CEA sector. The summit will provide a platform for education, networking, and exploring growth opportunities for business and academic community members.

During his keynote address titled, “Virginia’s Commitment to Next Generation Agriculture: Leading the Indoor Farming Revolution,” Secretary Lohr will shed light on Virginia’s leadership role in the CEA sector. He will discuss the state’s strategic plans, initiatives, support mechanisms, and opportunities for collaboration, emphasizing its investment in research, development, workforce training, and infrastructure.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Agriculture

Matthew Lohr, a fifth-generation farmer raised on a Virginia century family farm, has dedicated his life to improving agriculture and rural America. With over 30 years of professional experience, he was appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin in early 2022 to oversee three state agencies, including the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

A Hub for CEA Companies

Brian Sullivan, CEO of Indoor Ag-Con, expressed his honor in having Secretary Lohr at the event, highlighting Virginia’s unique advantages as an ideal hub for CEA companies. Dr. Scott Lowman, Co-Director of the CEA Innovation Center, also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in driving the sector’s growth.

A Two-Day Event for Industry Members

The CEA Summit East is tailored for CEA industry members from the Eastern US, including indoor and greenhouse growers, facility owners, educators, government officials, and more. The two-day event will feature keynotes, panels, breakout sessions, tabletop exhibits, and networking opportunities.
