Voltrac Targets Agriculture and Logistics with Modular Tractor Platform

Valencia-based startup Voltrac has launched its autonomous electric tractor platform, supported by a €2 million investment from FoodLabs and Antler. The company is building a modular, software-driven ground vehicle designed to address the needs of both agriculture and defense sectors. The announcement was first reported by EU-Startups, which featured an interview with Voltrac’s leadership.

Founded in 2024 by aerospace engineer Francisco Infante Aguirre and DeepTech operator Thomas Hubregtsen, Voltrac has approached tractor design from first principles—moving away from complex mechanical drivetrains to a distributed electric propulsion system aimed at simplifying maintenance and enabling autonomy.

Software-Defined Agriculture and Adaptive Automation

Voltrac’s tractor system uses per-wheel motors and integrated autonomy to enable real-time adaptation to tasks such as weeding, seeding, and spraying. By eliminating approximately 70% of traditional mechanical components, the platform targets a 30% annual reduction in maintenance and operational costs.

In the EU-Startups interview, CEO Thomas Hubregtsen described the company’s ambition as “creating a new paradigm of autonomous, software-driven ground vehicles.” CTO Francisco Infante added: “Farming was built for a world that changes slowly, but with pesticide-resistant pests and unpredictable climates, we need to adapt fast. Our tractors learn as they work.”

Expanding to Defense and Broader Terrain Applications

Voltrac’s design supports dual-use functionality. In addition to its agricultural role, the platform can be configured with a flatbed, EMI protection, and drone integration, enabling it to carry up to 4,000 kg and support frontline logistics.

With this approach, Voltrac is addressing both the €70 billion agriculture tractor market and the €30 billion military logistics segment. The company is already collaborating with Aguirre Agricola and engaging with NATO departments, according to details shared in the EU-Startups article.

Roadmap and Outlook For Voltrac

Voltrac expects to begin delivering its systems to customers by Q1 2026. To scale production capabilities, a follow-up financing round is planned for later in 2025.

Commenting in the EU-Startups feature, Christophe Maire, Managing Partner at FoodLabs, said: “We believe industry-defining solutions emerge where robotics, AI, and critical infrastructure converge. Voltrac is redefining what autonomous vehicles can achieve, setting a new standard for efficiency and adaptability.”
