Women in Agribusiness Adds Six New Leadership Awards to Its Recognition Program
Women in Agribusiness (WIA) has announced an expansion of its awards program, adding six new leadership categories alongside its longstanding WIA Demeter Award of Excellence. The move is intended to widen the scope of formal recognition for women across the agriculture value chain, extending beyond the three annual Demeter recipients to capture a broader range of achievement across roles, career stages, and disciplines.
“While the Demeter Award recipients will remain at the pinnacle of the award categories, we are adding additional specific leadership awards to extend the reach of recognition for women across the ag value chain. For years, we have recognized three exceptional women annually, but this means we leave out dozens who also have exhibited outstanding achievements worth celebrating. These additional leadership awards allow more high achievers to receive the public accolades among their peers that is duly earned,” said Svitlana Synkovska, WIA Portfolio Director.
The Six New Leadership Award Categories
The new awards cover six distinct areas of contribution across agriculture and agribusiness.
The Executive Leadership Award honors women in C-suite or equivalent roles with a minimum of five years of service who demonstrate measurable impact through strategic vision, decision-making, and organizational results. The Rising Leadership Award recognizes women aged 40 and under who are building momentum in agribusiness — defined by trajectory rather than title — and is open to candidates in any ag role or sector, with an age cutoff of September 22, 2026.
The Investment & Capital Leadership Award recognizes women deploying capital across agriculture and food systems — spanning venture capital, private equity, institutional investment, agricultural lending, and impact investing — who demonstrate strategic investment acumen and are working to advance the sector's financial infrastructure. The Advisory & Consulting Leadership Award honors women delivering exceptional advisory and consulting value, recognized for expert counsel, industry knowledge, and the ability to help organizations navigate complex challenges.
The Talent & Workforce Leadership Award recognizes women transforming how agriculture and agribusiness organizations attract, develop, and retain talent, with emphasis on building cultures and systems that strengthen the sector's long-term talent pipeline. The Innovation & AI Leadership Award honors women leading or advancing the integration of artificial intelligence, innovation, and digital technology across agriculture and food, with a defining qualification of a track record of bringing new capabilities to the sector and driving real-world adoption.
Demeter Award of Excellence Continues, With a New Addition
WIA will continue to select three women for the traditional Demeter Award of Excellence, which requires more than 10 years of service in the ag sector, significant professional achievements, and a record of dismantling barriers and creating opportunities for other women. This year, a fourth Demeter Award has been added recognizing a Female Farmer, in honor of the International Year of the Woman Farmer. Nominations for the Demeter Awards have closed.
Nominations and Recognition at the 2026 WIA Summit
Nominations for the six new leadership awards are open through August 1, 2026, with winners notified on August 17. All award recipients — across both the Demeter and new leadership categories — will be recognized at the 2026 Women in Agribusiness Summit, scheduled for September 22–24 in New Orleans.
