Uniprotein® Gains SFDA Approval for Saudi Aquaculture Market

Uniprotein®, a microbial single-cell protein designed for animal feed applications, has been approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) for use in aquaculture. This decision, following an extensive review process that started in April 2023, confirms the safety and efficacy of Uniprotein® in feed for fish, shrimp, and crustaceans.

With this regulatory approval, Uniprotein® is now cleared for sale in the Saudi feed industry and can be tested under real-world commercial conditions.

According to Olivier Hartz, Chief Commercial Officer at Unibio: “We are pleased to announce that Uniprotein® has been approved for aquaculture applications in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (‘KSA’). This is a significant step into KSA, a key region that is working towards feed and food self-sufficiency under the Vision 2030 programme, while increasing local fish production.”

Strategic Expansion in the Middle East

The SFDA approval represents a strategic entry into the Saudi Arabian market, which is actively investing in sustainable aquaculture as part of Vision 2030. The initiative seeks to:

  • Reduce dependence on imported feed ingredients.
  • Enhance local fish production to meet growing domestic demand.
  • Support sustainable food production by integrating innovative protein sources into feed markets.

By introducing Uniprotein® to the Saudi feed industry, Unibio is positioning its product as a sustainable and locally available alternative to traditional fishmeal-based proteins.

Expanding Global Regulatory Approvals for Uniprotein®

Saudi Arabia joins a growing list of countries where Uniprotein® is approved for animal feed applications. The product has already secured regulatory clearance in several key markets, including:

  • European Union
  • Japan
  • India
  • Thailand
  • Russia
  • Chile

These approvals reflect global confidence in Uniprotein® as a safe and sustainable protein source for regulated feed markets.

With Saudi Arabia’s approval, Unibio continues to strengthen its footprint in key aquaculture and livestock feed markets, ensuring that Uniprotein® becomes an integral part of sustainable food production worldwide.
