Albaugh, a leading supplier of post-patent crop protection products, announced on Thursday that it had received registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its new herbicide, Maxtron 4SC. The registration number provided by the EPA is 45002-37.

Herbicide Composition and Applications

Maxtron 4SC contains ethofumesate, a broad-spectrum herbicide that selectively controls key weeds. The herbicide is effective against annual sowthistle, puncturevine, and purple and yellow nutsedge, among other crops. It is particularly useful for sugar beets, garlic, onions, and other similar crops.

Efficacy and Handling

Preemergent applications of Maxtron 4SC have been shown to protect sugar beets through various stages, including germination, emergence, and early seedling growth. The herbicide has effectively controlled susceptible weed species for up to 10 weeks in sugar beets. It can be applied using ground or aerial equipment and has excellent handling and storage characteristics.

Industry Reactions

“This is a highly anticipated addition to Albaugh’s herbicide portfolio,” said Andy Bogue, Albaugh U.S. Sales Director – Crop Protection. “Maxtron 4SC will give customers, particularly sugar beet growers in the Red River Valley, a new alternative to combat glyphosate-resistant waterhemp in their Roundup Ready sugar beets.”

Availability

The product will be available through authorized Albaugh distributors starting from the 2024 growing season.
