Angel Yeast Begins Probiotics Production in Xizang, Advancing Biotech Transformation

Angel Yeast (SH600298), a global leader in yeast manufacturing, has officially launched its plateau probiotics project in Xizang, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing biotech transformation strategy. This initiative is seen as a crucial move toward achieving localized, industrialized production of probiotics, furthering the company’s expansion into the biotechnology sector.

Probiotics Production Focuses on Key Strains

The probiotics produced at the Xizang facility will be applied across various industries, including food, healthcare, and agriculture, highlighting their broad economic potential. Angel Yeast’s production efforts are centered on three primary industrialized strains:

  1. Lactobacillus plantarum S2: Known for its strong acid-producing capacity and excellent fermentation results, this strain is particularly suitable for use in food and agricultural production.
  2. DB-8: This strain is mainly used in dairy products and can naturally impart a tomato flavor to yogurt without the need for additives, offering high commercial value.
  3. Streptococcus thermophilus: This strain helps prevent further acidification in yogurt over time, ensuring the product maintains its taste quality.

R&D and Local Talent Development

Angel Yeast’s subsidiary in Xizang has played a pivotal role in bringing this project to fruition. According to He Xinzhang, the general manager of the subsidiary, the research and development (R&D) team faced and overcame the challenges of high-altitude work conditions. Over the past three years, they conducted extensive fieldwork, collecting and evaluating microbial resources in the region. This effort resulted in the collection of over 1,800 bacterial strains, from which the most promising candidates were selected for industrialization.

“We have not only secured patent-licensed probiotic strains but also developed independent intellectual property rights for our production processes. These achievements strengthen our competitive position in the market,” said He. In addition to advancing the probiotics project, Angel Yeast is also focusing on building a local talent pipeline, recruiting professionals in management, finance, and equipment operations.

Technological Advancements and Future Plans

The Xizang Angel Zhufeng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Angel Yeast, now boasts full independent property rights for its key probiotic strains and production processes. The facility is equipped with fully digitalized and automated systems, enabling automatic control, enclosed conveying, and digital management. These technologies ensure quality tracing across all sections of production.

Looking forward, Angel Yeast plans to continue its biotech transformation by exploring new areas of innovation. The company’s strategic roadmap includes the development of four key biotech sectors: microorganisms and cell cultures, biocatalysis and enzymes, biomaterials, and biotechnology services. Additionally, Angel Yeast is exploring the applications of synthetic biology in healthcare, bio-agriculture, biomaterials, and other fields.
