Bayer Crop Science Unveils Vyconic™ Soybeans at Commodity Classic 2025
The Crop Science division of Bayer (Profile) has announced the launch of Vyconic™ soybeans, a breakthrough trait technology that will be the first in the industry to combine five herbicide tolerances in a single soybean trait.
Revealed at Commodity Classic 2025 in Denver, Colorado, Vyconic soybeans will set a new benchmark for weed control, offering farmers unparalleled flexibility in managing resistant weed populations.
“We understand the challenges farmers face with weed control, and this technology underscores Bayer’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that help to meet industry challenges and the evolving needs of farmers in the U.S. and worldwide,” said Brian Naber, President, Crop Science North America and Australia/New Zealand Region.
Key Features of Vyconic™ Soybeans
Vyconic soybeans will feature five herbicide tolerances, including:
- Dicamba
- Glufosinate
- Glyphosate
- Mesotrione (New)
- 2,4-D (New)
The addition of mesotrione and 2,4-D expands Bayer’s previous soybean trait offerings, providing farmers with multiple modes of action for a stronger, more adaptable weed control strategy.
“Vyconic soybeans will offer farmers an unparalleled level of flexibility and control options in their weed management practices,” said Kacy Perry, North America Soybean Business Lead at Bayer Crop Science.
Benefits for Farmers
Vyconic soybeans are designed to help soybean growers maximize yields while addressing herbicide resistance challenges.
1. Unparalleled Weed Control Flexibility
- Five herbicide tolerance options provide a more robust integrated weed management program.
- Farmers can customize their weed control strategy based on field-specific needs.
2. Broad-Spectrum Weed Management
- Pending EPA approval, Vyconic soybeans will offer multiple effective herbicide options to manage a wide range of resistant weed species.
- Effective control of tough weeds such as Palmer amaranth and waterhemp.
3. Proactive Resistance Management
- Five herbicides with different modes of action help reduce the likelihood of weed resistance.
- Supports long-term sustainability in soybean production.
Launch Timeline & Future Developments For Bayer Crop Science’s Latest Innovation
Vyconic soybeans are expected to be commercially available in the U.S. and Canada by the 2027 planting season, pending regulatory approvals.
