CFE Seafoods Joins Vanguard Renewables in Sustainability Initiative

Vanguard Renewables has welcomed CFE Seafoods into the Farm Powered Sustainability Heroes Program (FPSH), marking the latest addition to the group of New England food and beverage manufacturers committed to sustainability. The Auburndale, MA-based seafood company joins the likes of New England Natural Bakers, Fancypants Baking Co., and Sloop Brewing Co. to divert food waste from landfills and convert it into renewable energy through Farm Powered® anaerobic digestion on regional dairy farms.

“We are thrilled to have CFE Seafoods join our Farm Powered Sustainability Heroes program,” said Neil H. Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Vanguard Renewables. “Renowned for providing grocers and top global restaurants with Saltfish, CFE Seafoods’ commitment to environmental and community stewardship throughout their business operations makes them a valuable addition to our Farm Powered movement.”

CFE Seafoods has catered to the refined preferences of the world's top restaurateurs and seafood grocers for over 50 years. As a result, its rich maritime heritage is reflected in every seafood product, from traditionally dry-salted cod to grilled salmon on cedar planks.

Justin McAloon, Director of Operations and Compliance at CFE Seafoods, spoke about their decision to join the FPSH program: “As a leader in the salted fish industry, we believe in sustainability at every level – from how we source our products to our manufacturing process. Joining the Farm Powered Sustainability Heroes Program is a natural extension of our company’s sustainability goals, and we look forward to collaborating with our peers in the food and beverage industry to help alleviate the climate crisis.”

CFE Seafoods attributes its success to its committed employees, many of whom have been with the company for over two decades. Their shared dedication to delivering high-quality salted fish products and outstanding customer service underpins the company’s mission.

Launched in 2022, the FPSH program is a regional chapter of the Farm Powered Strategic Alliance (FPSA), encompassing regional and single-location food and beverage manufacturers throughout New England committed to repurposing waste into renewable energy. The FPSA was initiated in 2020 with Vanguard Renewables, Dairy Farmers of America, Starbucks, and Unilever as founding partners and now comprises more than 15 ample food and beverage manufacturers.
