Derek Jeter, a legendary MLB Hall of Famer, investor, and entrepreneur, has made a significant investment in Meati Foods™, a company that produces delicious, animal-free meat made from mushroom roots. In addition to his investment, Jeter will also serve as an advisor to the company. This partnership highlights Jeter’s commitment to nutrition, sustainability, and taste in evaluating food products.

“When it came to considering an investment in this industry, I had three main priorities in evaluating the food: nutrition, sustainability, and taste,” said Jeter. “Meati certainly delivers, with great quality steaks and cutlets and an institutional emphasis on high nutritional value and sustainable practices. As we look to the future, the choices we make and the impact we leave are critical, and I appreciate the way Meati has dedicated efforts to making a real difference.”

Meati Foods’ flagship product line, Eat Meati™, includes a variety of plant-based alternatives such as Classic Cutlet, Crispy Cutlet, Classic Steak, and Carne Asada Steak. These products are currently available in Sprouts stores nationwide as well as in restaurants like PLNT Burger and Birdcall. Jeter’s involvement adds to a distinguished list of supporters that includes renowned culinary figures like Rachael Ray, David Chang, Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman, and Sam Kass. This diverse group of partners reflects Meati’s broad appeal and their vision of creating a more inclusive food ecosystem.

The addition of Derek Jeter as an investor and advisor holds immense significance for Meati Foods. Scott Tassani, the president and COO of Meati Foods, expressed his gratitude for Jeter’s support, stating, “An investment from Derek, one of the greatest athletes of all time, is a huge validation of our food. Very few people are as discriminating about the quality of food that fuels their bodies.” Tassani further emphasized the company’s inspiration from Jeter’s passion for a sustainable, equitable, and nutritious food ecosystem.

Derek Jeter’s involvement with Meati Foods is a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and his dedication to making impactful investments. Following his 20-year career with the New York Yankees, Jeter has ventured into various successful business endeavors. His previous investments in the food and beverage industry include Performance Kitchen, Amass, and Bespoken Spirits. Furthermore, Jeter established the Turn 2 Foundation in 1996, which has made significant contributions of over $34 million to support programs promoting healthy lifestyles among young people.

Meati Foods, founded in 2017, is on a mission to transform the food system into one that is more delicious, nutritious, equitable, and sustainable. Their debut product line, Eat Meati™, offers plant-based cutlets and steaks made from mushroom roots. This innovative protein source is cultivated using a modernized version of ancient and natural processes that have helped preserve Earth’s ecosystems for millennia. After experiencing record sellouts through their direct-to-doorstep online shop, Eat Meati™ made its national retail debut in March 2023. The company plans to expand its omni-channel footprint across the U.S. later this year.

With the support and endorsement of influential figures like Derek Jeter, Rachael Ray, and David Chang, Meati Foods is well-positioned to revolutionize the food industry. By providing consumers with delicious, sustainable, and nutritious alternatives to traditional meat products, Meati Foods is paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive food ecosystem.
