EverGen’s GrowTEC Facility Receives $2M in Funding for Phase 2 Expansion

EverGen’s GrowTEC facility received up to $2M from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to support Phase 2 of its anaerobic digester expansion.

Key Takeaways:

  • EverGen’s GrowTEC facility received up to $2 million from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) to support Phase 2 of its anaerobic digester expansion.
  • The expansion will increase renewable natural gas (RNG) production capacity to up to 120,000 gigajoules annually.
  • New equipment will be installed to broaden the range of organic waste the facility can process.
  • GrowTEC holds long-term offtake agreements with FortisBC and Irving Oil for RNG supply.

$2 Million Funding Boost for GrowTEC’s Expansion

EverGen Infrastructure Corp. announced that Grow the Energy Circle Ltd. (GrowTEC), a farm-scale biogas facility, has secured up to $2 million in funding from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). This financial support will go toward Phase 2 of GrowTEC’s anaerobic digester expansion project. The expansion will enable the facility to significantly enhance its renewable natural gas (RNG) production, processing a wider variety of organic feedstocks.

Expanding Production Capacity

Phase 2 of the GrowTEC expansion is set to increase the facility’s production capacity to up to 120,000 gigajoules (GJ) of RNG annually. The project will involve addressing current bottlenecks by installing new preprocessing and depackaging equipment to expand the range of organic waste that can be processed. Additionally, the RNG upgrading system will be enhanced to improve overall production efficiency.

Mischa Zajtmann, CEO of EverGen Infrastructure, expressed appreciation for AAFC’s support, stating, “By addressing key bottlenecks and expanding our feedstock capabilities, we are now positioned and well-equipped to replicate the success of our Fraser Valley Biogas expansion project.”

Long-Term Offtake Agreements

GrowTEC holds long-term offtake agreements with two major energy companies: a 20-year contract with FortisBC and a 10-year contract with Irving Oil. These partnerships ensure a stable market for the facility’s RNG production, contributing to EverGen’s ongoing commitment to renewable energy development and waste management solutions.

The Phase 2 expansion at GrowTEC marks a significant step forward for EverGen, enabling the company to strengthen its position in the RNG market while supporting Canada’s sustainability goals.
