FAMSUN Mobilizes Technical Recovery Team in Earthquake-Hit Myanmar
Rapid Response to Protect Livestock Feed Supply Chain
In response to the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar’s Mandalay region on March 28, 2025, FAMSUN launched an emergency recovery operation to help restore damaged feed mills and stabilize the country’s food production infrastructure.
The earthquake caused significant disruptions at feed mills operated by major industry players, including CP Group, New Hope, and Sunjin. With power outages and equipment damage halting operations, the country’s livestock feed supply — and by extension its meat, dairy, and egg production — faced critical challenges.
FAMSUN activated emergency protocols within hours and dispatched a Joint Support Team of eight specialists through its Southeast Asia regional hub. Despite visa restrictions and logistical hurdles, the team reached the affected region by April 5 and began immediate recovery efforts.
“This rapid response reflects our commitment not only to our partners, but also to the people and communities we serve,” said Jason Fan, Vice President of FAMSUN.
Feed Mill Operations Restored Within 48 Hours
Working in collaboration with local teams, FAMSUN engineers conducted structural and technical assessments at multiple damaged sites. Despite difficult conditions, including aftershocks and heat, the team managed to restore full production at four feed mills within 48 hours of arrival.
In one case, FAMSUN engineers applied pre-fabricated modular components to replace a damaged conveying system — a measure that significantly reduced downtime compared to conventional repairs.
These efforts played a crucial role in resuming livestock feed deliveries to farms across the region, helping to mitigate further strain on Myanmar’s food supply chain.
In addition to short-term repairs, FAMSUN provided ongoing technical recommendations to address structural and electrical vulnerabilities identified during the inspections.
FAMSUN Works with Local Partners to Provide Relief Supplies
Alongside technical work, FAMSUN provided essential relief items valued at over 40 million Myanmar Kyat (approx. USD $19,200). Supplies included food, drinking water, medicine, and financial support for affected families.
Distribution was coordinated through local partners, including the Myanmar Livestock Federation (MLF), CECCM, and MSCC.
“Their arrival brought not just technical skill, but also confidence and warmth,” said Dr. Nay Thuyein, Chairman of MLF (Mandalay Branch). “FAMSUN’s support brings hope not only for the people affected, but also for our industry as a whole.”
