Harvest London Brings Vertical Farming to the Heart of the City

In February 2025, Harvest London (Profile) launched a highly visible vertical farming installation at Corner Corner, a mixed-use venue in Canada Water. The city-centre farm, encased in glass and fully viewable from the adjacent food hall, grows lettuce, herbs, and leafy greens. It serves clients across London, including Google, HSBC, and Pizza Pilgrims, who now receive fresh produce harvested just hours before delivery.

This new development aligns with the company’s mission to localize food production and reduce the environmental impact of long supply chains. “We’re not just building farms—we’re building a system that’s resilient, local, and better for the planet,” said Chris Davies, CEO and co-founder.

Scaling Up: Harvest London’s Investment and Infrastructure Strategy

Backing from Foresight Group Fuels Growth

In 2023, Harvest London secured investment from Foresight Group to scale its operations. The funding supports the development of a 140,000 sq ft vertical farm in Beddington, South London, which will become one of the largest in the country. The farm is strategically located next to a power plant to maximize energy efficiency.

Unlike traditional venture capital, Foresight focuses on long-term sustainable infrastructure, making it well-suited to the economics of vertical farming. The partnership highlights a shift in how AgTech is financed—moving from high-risk returns to patient capital with steady growth expectations.

A Model for Sustainability in Controlled Environment Agriculture

B Corp Certification and Operational Excellence

Since earning B Corp certification in 2022 with an impact score of 104.7, Harvest London has implemented stringent sustainability practices. The company uses 100% renewable electricity, zero chemical pesticides, and reusable containers. It also pays the London Living Wage and is working toward employee board representation.

Their energy strategy is supported by Octopus Energy, which developed a “vertical tariff” specifically for farms. This allows Harvest London to optimize operations during off-peak hours while contributing to grid stability.

Harvest London’s Vision: Local Food, Global Impact

Reimagining Urban Food Systems

The new Corner Corner farm is also designed as an educational resource, featuring an on-site learning space and collaborations with local charities like Global Generation and Surrey Docks Farm. Visitors can tour the facility, watch crops being grown, and learn about urban agriculture’s role in future food systems.

Harvest London is also exploring future crop diversification, including vine crops and ingredients for nutraceuticals and cosmetics. Its pivot from specialty herbs to scalable salad greens has opened up access to institutional buyers while maintaining high sustainability standards.
