However, operating in such conditions poses challenges. “Greenhouses in Dubai often experience extreme temperatures which exceed the machine’s operating temperature window,” Weir explained. Adjustments to the machine’s specifications are ongoing to address these issues specific to the Middle East.

Word-of-mouth and cultural factors also play a significant role in the region. “In the Middle East, growers talk to each other more openly, which has helped us gain traction,” Weir shared, contrasting this with the secrecy often seen in Western markets.


Scaling Up for Future Growth

Zayndu’s next steps include developing larger machines to cater to field applications. “We’ve proven the technology works in the field, but our current machines are too small for large-scale outdoor operations,” Weir admitted. The company is also focusing on increasing automation, reducing the need for operator interaction, and exploring solar-powered solutions for developing regions.

Looking ahead to 2030, Weir envisions Zayndu’s plasma technology becoming a standard feature in greenhouses and vertical farms. “I believe our system will be a de facto fitment, much like LED lighting is today,” he predicted. The team is also exploring new applications, such as enhancing seed resistance to drought and salinity, which could expand its impact beyond CEA.
