New Technology In Agriculture Soil

Kemin Industries Launches Valena™ FLOW to Boost Crop Nutrition and Yield

Kemin Industries introduces RevoCURB™, a new soil treatment exempt from FIFRA 25(b) registration requirements

Key Takeaways:

  • Kemin Industries has introduced Valena™ FLOW, a new foliar nutrition solution for U.S. growers aimed at enhancing nutrient uptake, plant vigor, and yields.
  • The formulation combines 1,3-β-glucan from Euglena gracilis microalgae with zinc oxide, extracted and produced at Kemin’s Des Moines, Iowa facility.
  • Field trials across multiple crops — including tomatoes, apples, peppers, and grapes — show measurable yield and quality improvements.
  • Valena FLOW builds on the original Valena™ dry formulation, offering a more convenient, flowable suspension for foliar application.
  • The product is now available in several U.S. states for specialty crops, though not approved for organic production.

Kemin Industries Introduces Valena™ FLOW for Enhanced Crop Performance

Kemin Industries, a global ingredient manufacturer dedicated to improving the quality of life through sustainable innovation, has announced the U.S. launch of Valena™ FLOW, a foliar nutrition product designed to enhance nutrient uptake, strengthen plant vigor, and boost crop yields.

Formulated as a liquid suspension for foliar use, Valena FLOW combines 1,3-β-glucan derived from Kemin’s proprietary Euglena gracilis strain of microalgae with zinc oxide. The beta-glucan molecules are extracted at the company’s Des Moines, Iowa facility under strict purity and quality standards.

How Kemin Industries' Valena™ FLOW Works

Applied early in the growing season—typically when plants have developed two to four true leaves—Valena™ FLOW triggers beneficial physiological responses through Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs) on plant tissue. These receptors identify 1,3-beta-glucan, stimulating natural processes that improve nutrient uptake, root growth, biomass accumulation, and yield potential.

“We’ve tested Valena FLOW across a wide range of crops, regions, and growing conditions, and the results speak for themselves,” said Bridget Hatfield, Ph.D., Technical Services Manager at Kemin Crop Technologies. “From tomatoes in Florida to apples and hops in Washington, and grapes and peppers in California, Valena FLOW consistently improves fruit count, canopy density, vigor, and overall crop quality.”

Field trials reported yield increases of 27% in peppers and higher NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) scores in tomatoes, indicating stronger plant health and productivity.

Building on the Success of the Original Valena™ Formulation

Valena™ FLOW evolves from Kemin’s original Valena™ dry formulation, which was developed to prime soils for optimal plant growth. The new flowable suspension offers greater flexibility and ease of use for growers, seamlessly integrating into existing foliar nutrition programs.

“At Kemin, we’ve long believed in the power of this molecule,” said Emily Fuerst, R&D Director at Kemin Crop Technologies. “Valena FLOW represents our next step in exploring 1,3-beta glucan’s benefits for specialty crops and ornamentals. Its impact on plant health and productivity is clear, and we’re proud to deliver it in a more functional form that helps growers achieve resilient, high-performing crops.”

Broad Applicability Across Specialty Crops

Valena™ FLOW is suitable for a wide range of crops, including:

  • Berries, tomatoes, and peppers
  • Leafy greens, citrus, and tree fruits
  • Nuts, hops, and greenhouse ornamentals

The product is available in multiple U.S. states, though it is not certified for organic production. Growers can contact their local Kemin representative for more information on compatibility, rates, and approved uses.
