Semtech and Skylo Expand Partnership to Enable Continuous IoT Connectivity
Semtech Corporation and Skylo announced an expanded partnership to offer a unified device-to-cloud IoT connectivity solution that combines terrestrial and satellite coverage under a single platform. The new offering addresses one of the main challenges in global IoT deployments—loss of connectivity outside cellular coverage zones—by providing automatic switching between networks.
This integration brings together Skylo-certified HL7810 and HL7812 Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) modules, Smart Connectivity Premium SIMs, and centralized device management through Semtech’s AirVantage® platform.
According to ABI Research, global IoT connections leveraging Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) are expected to grow more than 25% annually through 2030, highlighting the growing need for hybrid connectivity solutions.
Simplified Connectivity Through Integrated Terrestrial and Satellite Access
The joint solution is designed to reduce operational complexity, cost, and deployment timelines for businesses that currently rely on multiple vendors for connectivity. By combining cellular and satellite access into a single managed service, Semtech and Skylo aim to simplify global IoT deployments across diverse industries.
“By integrating Skylo’s satellite network directly into Semtech’s Smart Connectivity platform, we’re making NTN IoT as simple as ordering a traditional cellular solution,” said Tarun Gupta, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Skylo.
Rupa Datta, Vice President of IoT Connected Services at Semtech, added, “By combining terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks in one solution, we’re addressing real connectivity challenges for industries such as logistics, transportation, maritime, and agriculture.”
Technical Features and Coverage
The solution is built on Semtech’s HL7810 LPWA module, which supports LTE-M, NB-IoT, and NTN connections, while the HL7812 adds 2G fallback capabilities. These modules connect through the Smart Connectivity Premium SIM, providing access to over 600 partner networks across 190 countries and Skylo’s global NTN coverage, which spans 36 countries and more than 60 million square kilometers.
Through the AirVantage® platform, users can manage devices, SIMs, and billing in one interface, reducing the total cost of ownership and simplifying network management. Skylo’s NTN infrastructure is supported by satellite partners including Viasat, Terrestar Solutions, Ligado Networks, and EchoStar.
