Silal Signs MoU to Strengthen Sustainable Agriculture in Abu Dhabi

Silal, Abu Dhabi’s agri-food and technology company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) to strengthen collaboration on sustainable energy and water management in the agricultural sector. The agreement supports Abu Dhabi’s broader objective of transitioning toward a more resource-efficient and resilient food system.

The MoU was signed during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 by Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Energy, and Dhafer Rashed Al Qasimi, Group Chief Executive Officer of Silal Group.

Silal’s Role in the Food–Water–Energy Nexus

Under the partnership, Silal will play a central role in advancing the integration of agri-tech and clean energy solutions across Abu Dhabi’s agricultural value chain. The collaboration focuses on improving energy and water efficiency through smart irrigation systems, renewable energy deployment, and data-driven farm management tools designed to reduce resource consumption while improving productivity.

Dr. Shamal Mohammed, Chief Executive Officer of Silal Innovation Oasis, said the partnership advances the Food, Water, and Energy Nexus by enhancing efficiency through smart irrigation and data-driven management. He added that Silal will support innovation in areas including solar-powered farm systems, low-energy desalination, and AI-based optimization.

Clean Energy and Digital Solutions for Agriculture

The MoU outlines joint efforts to apply clean energy and agri-tech innovations across Abu Dhabi’s agricultural sector. Planned initiatives include solar-powered agricultural infrastructure, AI-based water management systems, optimized energy use, and the deployment of digital platforms that link resource consumption data with farm performance.

These initiatives aim to support decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and reduce the environmental footprint of agricultural production. The collaboration will also include pilot projects and knowledge exchange to support the practical application of new technologies.

Alignment With Abu Dhabi and UAE Sustainability Goals

The partnership supports Abu Dhabi’s Clean Energy Targets 2035 and contributes to national priorities under the UAE Net Zero 2050 agenda and the Abu Dhabi Climate Change Strategy 2023. By aligning the Department of Energy’s regulatory expertise with Silal’s agri-tech capabilities, the MoU establishes a framework for coordinated policy development and implementation.

Silal stated that the collaboration reinforces its commitment to sustainable growth and positions the company as a key contributor to building resilient, resource-efficient agricultural systems in Abu Dhabi.
