Strengthening Sino-Dutch Agricultural Partnerships

The collaboration between China and the Netherlands has taken a significant step forward with the announcement of the Sino-Dutch Horticulture Economic Park in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Officially confirmed on August 16, this 28-hectare project will focus on the production of leafy vegetables and cut flowers, utilizing advanced vertical farming techniques. This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to bolster sustainable agriculture and strengthen ties between the two countries.

Project Scope and Significance

Covering 28 hectares, the Huzhou City project will dedicate 23 hectares to the cultivation of leafy vegetables and 5 hectares to flowers. Vertical farming, a key component of the project, will enhance space utilization and improve the sustainability of farming practices. HX Agriculture, the primary partner in this endeavor, is collaborating closely with Dutch Greenhouse Delta (DGD-China) and a consortium of Dutch technology firms to bring this project to fruition.

“This project will provide Huzhou City with sustainable and local production capabilities, reinforcing food safety and food security in the region,” stated HX Agriculture, emphasizing the importance of this development. The project’s focus on sustainability and local production reflects a broader commitment to advancing agricultural practices that meet contemporary challenges.

Building on Strong Foundations

The project in Huzhou is part of a broader effort to deepen Sino-Dutch cooperation in horticulture. A recent visit to the Netherlands by a delegation from Huzhou City resulted in an additional agreement to advance the project. This visit also allowed key Dutch partners, including KUBO Group, Dalsem – Complete Greenhouse Projects, Ridder, Artechno Growsystems, BOAL Group, and HX Agriculture, to strengthen their collaboration.

During an earlier signing ceremony in Huzhou, DGD-China director Gert Dral was honored as a “horticulture ambassador” for his contributions to fostering this international partnership. “At DGD, we are particularly proud of the recognition that Gert received,” the organization noted, acknowledging his role in promoting sustainable and local production methods.

Expanding Impact Beyond Huzhou

Beyond the Huzhou project, DGD-China and HX Agriculture are also exploring additional opportunities for collaboration. A recent delegation from Jinhua visited to discuss potential partnerships aimed at enhancing food safety and security through Sino-Dutch cooperation. Reflecting on the visit, DGD-China remarked, “We look back on a valuable visit and look forward to the next steps,” signaling ongoing efforts to expand the impact of these initiatives.

As the Sino-Dutch Horticulture Economic Park in Huzhou City moves forward, it is poised to serve as a model for future international agricultural collaborations. By integrating Dutch technology and expertise with local Chinese initiatives, this project exemplifies the potential of cross-border partnerships in addressing global food security challenges. HX Agriculture, expressing their commitment to this vision, stated, “We look forward to making the right connections and adding value to the sustainable and local production of flowers and leafy vegetables for Huzhou City.”
