Using a combination of water agitation, flow dynamics, and an internal auger, the device extracts microbes from compost while separating larger solids and woodchips. The resulting liquid compost can be sprayed over large areas, helping improve soil structure, nutrient availability, and microbial balance.

According to Tow and Fert, the Compost Extraction Auger enables treatment of more than 100 hectares per day using just one-tenth of the compost volume typically spread on fields.
