Tow and Fert Launches Compost Extraction Auger to Streamline Biological Soil Improvement

Tow and Fert has introduced its patent-pending Compost Extraction Auger, a system that converts solid compost into a liquid extract for large-scale biological soil treatment.

Key Takeaways

  • Tow and Fert has introduced its patent-pending Compost Extraction Auger, a system that converts solid compost into a liquid extract for large-scale biological soil treatment.
  • The technology allows farmers to cover more than 100 hectares per day using only a fraction of the compost volume typically required.
  • The auger extracts beneficial microbes while preserving their viability, producing a living liquid compost that can be applied through Tow and Fert systems.
  • Expelled woodchips are pre-inoculated for reuse, supporting a circular approach to soil management.
  • The system builds on Tow and Fert’s experience in liquid and fine-particle application, with exports spanning Australia, the UK, the U.S., Europe, and beyond.

Tow and Fert Unveils Compost Extraction Auger for Practical Sustainable Farming

Tow and Fert has announced the release of its Compost Extraction Auger, a new system designed to make biological soil enhancement faster and more efficient. The innovation enables farmers to transform solid compost into a liquid extract rich in living microorganisms that can be easily applied using Tow and Fert’s existing liquid nutrient equipment.

Using a combination of water agitation, flow dynamics, and an internal auger, the device extracts microbes from compost while separating larger solids and woodchips. The resulting liquid compost can be sprayed over large areas, helping improve soil structure, nutrient availability, and microbial balance.

Efficiency, Circularity, and Ease of Use

According to Tow and Fert, the Compost Extraction Auger enables treatment of more than 100 hectares per day using just one-tenth of the compost volume typically spread on fields. The expelled woodchips are automatically inoculated during the extraction process, allowing them to be reused in future composting cycles.

“Farmers are being asked to meet both production and environmental goals simultaneously, but if it’s not practical and realistic, that’s not going to happen,” said Joel Crump, Marketing Manager at Metalform – Tow and Fert. “This innovation means they no longer need to compromise. They can build soil biology, reduce synthetic inputs, and keep operations efficient without complex mixing setups.”

Tow and Fert: Supporting Climate-Smart and Regenerative Agriculture

The Compost Extraction Auger integrates with Tow and Fert’s low-pressure, microbe-friendly systems—operating at 22 psi—to ensure that living organisms are preserved throughout the process. The design also incorporates patented boom recirculation and on-board agitation for consistent performance.

By combining microbial protection, efficient coverage, and reuse of compost materials, Tow and Fert aims to make regenerative and climate-smart farming more practical for everyday producers.

The company continues to expand its international presence, with its equipment now used in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Ireland, the U.S., South America, Europe, and South Africa, supporting farmers looking to improve soil health while maintaining productivity.
