Lucent Bio Unveils Soileos Boron + Zinc for Proactive Micronutrient Management

Lucent Bio, a Canadian developer of sustainable agricultural inputs, has announced the launch of Soileos Boron + Zinc, a new fertilizer aimed at improving micronutrient delivery while reducing environmental impact. Built on the company’s patented cellulose delivery matrix, the product releases nutrients through microbial mineralization, making boron and zinc available in sync with crop demand.

“Soileos Boron + Zinc gives growers a smarter, safer way to manage boron,” said Michael Riedijk, CEO of Lucent Bio. “One that improves nutrient efficiency, simplifies planning, and delivers consistent results across diverse soil types.”

Addressing Boron Management Challenges in Crop Production

Boron has long been one of the more difficult micronutrients to manage due to its narrow margin between deficiency and toxicity and its high solubility, which leads to leaching in sandy soils and high-rainfall environments. Soileos Boron + Zinc offers an alternative to reactive foliar applications by providing slow-release delivery directly to the root zone.

“We developed Soileos Boron + Zinc to solve the boron delivery problem, not just reformulate it,” said Farah Nour, Chief Science Officer at Lucent Bio. “Microbial release allows us to synchronize nutrient availability with crop demand.”

The product is seed safe, can be applied in-furrow, banded, or broadcast at seeding, and has shown consistent results across various soil conditions, including high-pH and low-organic matter soils. According to Lucent Bio, Soileos Boron + Zinc can help reduce nutrient loss while enhancing crop performance and soil health.

Key product features include:

  • Slow-release microbial delivery to match plant uptake
  • Cellulose-bound nutrients to minimize leaching
  • Soil application at seeding, reducing in-season intervention
  • Circular, plant-based formulation supporting ESG and Scope 3 targets
