Alfa Laval Passes 100 Prodec Oil Plus Units Sold to U.S. Ethanol Plants

Alfa Laval has sold more than 100 Prodec Oil Plus decanter systems across the U.S. ethanol industry, a milestone announced July 24, 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Alfa Laval has sold more than 100 Prodec Oil Plus decanter systems across the U.S. ethanol industry, a milestone announced July 24, 2026.
  • The Prodec Oil Plus decanter is designed to recover more corn oil from ethanol production than traditional recovery methods.
  • The system captures oil that would otherwise remain in the wet cake byproduct, giving plants an added revenue stream from distillers corn oil (DCO).
  • Alfa Laval says the decanter's patented process boosts DCO yield by 20% to 50% over baseline performance while reaching 99% oil purity.
  • The company frames the milestone as reflecting growing industry adoption of advanced corn oil recovery technology amid strong DCO demand.

Alfa Laval Hits 100-Unit Mark in Ethanol Industry

Alfa Laval has now sold more than 100 Prodec Oil Plus decanter systems to ethanol producers across the United States, a milestone the company says reflects growing adoption of advanced corn oil recovery technology as producers look for new ways to boost revenue and efficiency.

Recovering More Oil From the Process

The Prodec Oil Plus decanter is built to pull more corn oil out of the ethanol production process than conventional recovery equipment, capturing oil that would otherwise stay in the wet cake byproduct. That extra recovery translates into more distillers corn oil, or DCO, a coproduct that has become an increasingly valuable revenue stream for ethanol plants.

Performance Behind the Milestone

Alfa Laval says the decanter's patented process lifts DCO yield by 20% to 50% above baseline performance while achieving 99% oil purity, numbers the company points to as the reason producers have kept adopting the system across the industry.

“Reaching 100 units sold is an important milestone because it demonstrates the confidence ethanol producers have placed in the Prodec Oil Plus and the results it continues to deliver. Our customers are constantly looking for opportunities to improve profitability. The Prodec Oil Plus helps them recover more valuable corn oil and generate additional revenue for their plant,” said Stephen Ludes, Sales Manager – Agro, Alfa Laval US.

Corn Oil's Growing Role in Ethanol Economics

Distillers corn oil has become an important secondary revenue source for U.S. ethanol producers, used in animal feed and increasingly in renewable diesel and other biofuel feedstocks. Equipment upgrades like Alfa Laval's decanters reflect the industry's continued push to squeeze more value out of each bushel of corn processed.
