Argus Media Expands Coverage to Africa
Argus, a global energy and commodity price reporting agency, has launched a suite of fertilizer price assessments with supporting data and analysis to provide market participants with greater insight into African fertilizer supply chains. The new weekly Argus Africa Fertilizer service is the first of its kind for the continent, tracking costs across inland hubs and seaborne cargoes.
Market Transparency and Coverage
The service covers nitrogen, phosphate, potash, and compound NPKs, with assessments for truckloads from inland hubs and shipping costs along trade corridors. It also includes sulphur, which plays a dual role in both fertilizer production and mining operations, particularly in the Copper Belt of southern Africa.
Argus Media's Executive Perspective
“Africa has historically been regarded as a supplier of fertilizer thanks to its large resources of natural gas and phosphate rock — with significant exports of nitrogen and phosphates from the north and west, but also has the potential to become one of the world's largest fertilizer markets as its population and agricultural economy grow,” said Adrian Binks, chairman and chief executive of Argus. “Our Africa fertilizer service brings much-needed transparency that will help participants make efficient investment decisions and support the development of this important sector in the region.”
