Astara Capital Partners Adds Dynatec Systems to Its Water Portfolio
Astara Capital Partners, LLC, a middle-market private equity firm, announced on August 13, 2026, that it has acquired Dynatec Systems, a Burlington, New Jersey-based provider of membrane-based industrial wastewater treatment systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The company designs, builds, operates and services membrane-based systems that treat industrial wastewater for discharge and reuse. The company, founded in 1978, works with clients in the food and beverage, automotive, data center, waste and general manufacturing sectors, covering both new treatment installations and ongoing plant operation. Dynatec has operated in the sector for nearly five decades, predating much of the water scarcity and regulatory pressure now shaping the industry.
Membrane-Based Treatment for Industrial Clients
Astara describes itself as an integrated investor and operator focused on the middle market, supplying capital and strategic guidance rather than acting purely as a financial sponsor. Its holdings span water infrastructure, building products, home services, food, packaging, manufacturing and distribution, with Dynatec becoming its latest addition in the water infrastructure space.
“I founded Dynatec in 1978 to provide membrane wastewater solutions, and I’m proud of everything our team has accomplished since,” said Tom Doherty, founder and president of Dynatec Systems.
Leadership Changes at Dynatec Systems
Hu Fleming, a water industry veteran who has served as a strategic advisor to Astara, becomes the company’s executive chairman under the new ownership. Doherty remains with the business as founder and president and retains a meaningful ownership stake following the transaction.
Deal Reflects Wider Trends in Industrial Water
Astara said it plans to grow Dynatec’s design-build-own-operate-maintain and aftermarket service capabilities. The firm pointed to water scarcity, the return of manufacturing to North America, and stricter industrial discharge regulations as factors it expects to drive demand for wastewater treatment services, including among Dynatec’s data center and manufacturing customers.
Dentons LLP and Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A. served as legal advisors on the transaction.
