Groundwork BioAg and Beck’s Announce Strategic Partnership
Groundwork BioAg, a global leader in mycorrhizal inoculants, has entered into a partnership with Beck’s to provide American growers access to Rootella® inoculants and the Rootella Carbon® program through Beck’s Grain Attribute program.
“Rootella Carbon, a durable carbon dioxide removal program based on the application of Rootella mycorrhizal inoculants, increases organic matter in cropland,” explained Dan Grotsky, Chief Growth Officer at Groundwork BioAg. “Our new partnership with Beck’s offers a new commercial opportunity to American growers, by tapping into a new revenue stream based on carbon insetting demand from foreign grain buyers such as Suntory.”
How Rootella Carbon Works
Rootella Carbon is the first carbon program centered on mycorrhizal fungi, organisms that form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots to enhance nutrient uptake, boost yields, and store carbon in soils. By sequestering durable carbon, the program enables growers to earn revenue through verified carbon insetting credits.
The initiative is overseen by Deloitte’s Sustainability Strategy team, ensuring measurement, verification, and transparency in the credits generated. These credits are available to supply chain partners aiming to advance credible net-zero commitments.
Beck’s Grain Attribute Program Expands Options
Beck’s Grain Attribute program is designed to connect farmers with opportunities to capture premiums by meeting specific end-user demands. With the addition of Rootella Carbon, growers can now choose to participate in a carbon insetting program alongside other premium opportunities.
“At Beck’s, our focus is on helping farmers maximize profitability on every acre,” said Kent Gremel, Special Projects Manager at Beck’s. “Through our Grain Attribute program, growers can access opportunities such as Rootella Carbon if they choose to participate.”
For the 2025 season, a limited group of Beck’s growers have already opted in to access this new revenue stream. Due to strong demand, the first Rootella Carbon cohort sold out ahead of schedule, with a waitlist now in place for future enrollment.
Global Reach of Rootella®
Rootella inoculants are already in use across 5.5 million acres in 23 markets worldwide, including the United States, Brazil, India, and China. With this new partnership, Groundwork BioAg and Beck’s aim to expand adoption in the U.S. by integrating biological innovation with market access.
“By working with Beck’s, we are able to introduce Rootella Carbon to U.S. farmers in a way that respects grower choice,” said Thad England, Director of U.S. Strategic Accounts at Groundwork BioAg. “This partnership sets an example of how biological innovation and market access can align to give farmers more options for productivity and profitability.”
