Key Takeaways

  • Micropep Technologies has submitted regulatory dossiers for Promisin™, its peptide-based biofungicide, in Brazil and Paraguay, with additional submissions planned for the United States and European Union.
  • Promisin is a broad-spectrum crop protection product built around a novel antimicrobial peptide mode of action, designed to disrupt fungal cell membranes and control major soybean fungal diseases including Asian soybean rust, Target Spot, and Leaf Blight.
  • The submissions are backed by more than three years of development and over 200 field trials conducted under high disease pressure across Europe, North America, and South America.
  • Promisin has been engineered specifically for row crop economics, addressing the cost barrier that has historically limited biocontrol adoption among large-scale growers.
  • Promisin is the first product from Micropep's Krisalix™ platform, which supports the discovery of peptide solutions targeting fungal pathogens, invasive weeds, and insect pests.

Micropep Technologies Files for Regulatory Approval of Promisin in Brazil and Paraguay

Micropep Technologies has submitted regulatory dossiers for Promisin™, its lead peptide-based biofungicide, in Brazil and Paraguay. The filings represent the company's first move from development into commercialisation and mark the opening phase of a broader multi-market regulatory strategy that includes planned submissions in the United States and the European Union.

Promisin introduces a novel active ingredient based on antimicrobial peptide technology, designed to control major fungal diseases in row crops. The product targets key pathogens in soybeans, including Phakopsora pachyrhizi (Asian soybean rust), Corynespora cassiicola (Target Spot), and Cercospora kikuchii (Leaf Blight), and is formulated to be compatible with existing spray programmes and tank mixes.

Micropep Three Years of Development and 200+ Global Field Trials

The regulatory submissions are supported by an extensive global field programme spanning more than three years and over 200 trials conducted under high disease pressure conditions across Europe, North America, and South America. Results across those trials showed consistent efficacy both as a standalone solution and when integrated into standard crop protection programmes.

Micropep has positioned Promisin as a response to two converging pressures in the fungicide market: the build-up of resistance to conventional chemistries and tightening regulatory constraints on established active ingredients.

“There's a clear need for new solutions as resistance pressure builds and regulatory expectations evolve. Promisin delivers a highly favourable efficacy, safety, and sustainability profile that represents the forefront of a coming wave of peptide-based biocontrol products for agriculture. These first submissions are an important step toward making that available to growers at scale,” said Dr. Kevin Leiner, VP of Regulatory Affairs at Micropep.

A Row Crop Economics Model for Biological Crop Protection

One of the defining features of Promisin is its cost structure. Micropep has specifically engineered the product to fit the economics of large-scale row crop farming, addressing what the company describes as a key barrier that has slowed adoption of earlier generations of higher-cost biocontrol products.

“Promisin represents what we set out to build from day one: a peptide-based crop protection solution that delivers efficacy at a cost structure that works for row crops. Growers need products that perform, fit into their operations, and make economic sense. With Promisin, we're delivering on all three,” said Georg Goeres, Chief Executive Officer of Micropep.

Promisin is the first commercial product from Micropep's Krisalix™ discovery platform, which the company is using to advance a broader pipeline of peptide candidates targeting invasive weeds, plant pathogens, and insect pests. As regulatory reviews progress in Brazil and Paraguay, Micropep continues to prepare additional filings and scale its manufacturing capabilities ahead of wider market entry.
