Risen Energy and Ascania Sign MoUs for 100 MW Solar, 200 MWh Storage in Ukraine

Risen Energy and Ukraine's Ascania Energy signed two MoUs to develop up to 100 MW of solar and 200 MWh of battery storage.

Key Takeaways

  • Risen Energy and Ascania Energy signed two MoUs covering up to 100 MW of solar and 200 MWh of battery energy storage in Ukraine.
  • The agreements were announced on August 18, 2026, and target new generation capacity and grid reliability across the country.
  • Risen Energy will supply photovoltaic modules and battery energy storage systems, while Ascania leads local development and engineering, procurement and construction.
  • Ascania Energy CEO Yevhen Piatko said the deal supports a more decentralized, flexible and resilient energy system for Ukraine.
  • Risen reports cumulative PV module shipments above 121.4 GW and battery storage deliveries surpassing 10 GWh as of the second quarter of 2026.

Risen Energy and Ascania Target Ukraine’s Grid

Risen Energy has signed two memoranda of understanding with Ukrainian developer Ascania Energy to jointly develop up to 100 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic capacity and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) of utility-scale battery energy storage in Ukraine. The two companies announced the agreements on August 18, 2026, framing them as a response to Ukraine’s need for new generation capacity and more flexible, decentralized power infrastructure as the country works to rebuild and diversify its energy system.

What the Two MoUs Cover

Under the framework, Risen Energy will supply the solar modules and utility-scale battery energy storage systems for the projects, while Ascania Energy will handle local project development and serve as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The 200 MWh of storage is intended to add flexibility to a grid that has faced repeated strain, helping shift solar output to periods of higher demand and support overall reliability for the projects once complete.

“Risen Energy brings extensive expertise in solar, energy storage and global delivery, while Ascania Energy contributes strong local knowledge, project execution and professional services,” said Jerry Qin, President for Europe at Risen Energy.

Risen Energy’s Global Footprint

Risen Energy manufactures and supplies PV modules, energy storage systems, inverters and energy management systems, and operates in more than 90 countries and regions worldwide. As of the second quarter of 2026, the company reported cumulative photovoltaic module shipments of more than 121.4 gigawatts (GW) and battery energy storage deliveries of over 10 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The Ukraine agreements extend that global reach into a market where rebuilding and decentralizing power supply has become a priority.

Building Out Ukraine’s Renewable Capacity

Ascania Energy works across Ukraine’s energy value chain, spanning project development, engineering, system integration, energy management, trading and direct power supply, and is part of the wider Ascania Group, which brings 30 years of business experience to the partnership. The arrangement pairs that local market presence with Risen Energy’s manufacturing scale and global deployment experience.

“Ukraine needs not only to restore the energy infrastructure damaged by the war, but also to build a more decentralised, flexible and resilient energy system,” said Yevhen Piatko, CEO and Co-Owner of Ascania Energy. Both companies described the two MoUs as a starting framework, with specific project sites, capacity splits and construction timelines still to be finalized.
