StoreField® Launches First Retail Growing Tower in Slovakia
Slovak startup StoreField® has officially launched its first commercial Growing System inside a grocery retail location, introducing a new concept in urban food access. The in-store microgreen tower was installed at Nom Nom Asia, a community grocery shop located within Bratislava’s Fresh Market. Customers are now able to harvest fresh herbs directly at the point of sale—a first for the region.
The innovation aims to connect consumers more closely with food production by showcasing herbs growing live in-store and allowing individuals to pick and purchase them at their freshest.
“The first StoreField® tower installation is a major milestone for us – but more importantly, it marks the beginning of a much bigger mission: to give people the opportunity to see, smell, and taste fresh, naturally grown food right where they live and shop,” said Martin Baláž, founder of StoreField®.
A New Retail Experience with the StoreField® Growing System
The StoreField® Growing System enables the cultivation of microgreens such as arugula, broccoli, radish, and garlic in self-contained towers placed directly in retail locations. These are offered in three curated blends:
- Garden Mix
- Spicy Mix
- Earthy Spices
Each plant is grown without pesticides, without plastic packaging, and is harvested on-site—reducing environmental impact and eliminating traditional supply chain inefficiencies.
“StoreField® impressed us because it’s not just a product – it’s an experience,” said the owner of Nom Nom Asia. “Watching your food grow right in front of you is something special.”
StoreField® Aligns AgTech with Consumer Demand
By merging agricultural innovation with retail, StoreField® responds to growing consumer demand for fresh, local, and sustainable food. The in-store growing system offers a practical solution for urban food access and strengthens the relationship between producers and consumers.
This initiative also aligns with broader trends in hyper-local food systems, where reducing food miles and enhancing transparency are increasingly valued by both retailers and shoppers.
