MAIRE's subsidiary Tecnimont has been awarded a contract by Fértil Pampa S.A.U., a subsidiary of Pampa Energia S.A., to build a large-scale fertilizer complex in Argentina valued at approximately €1.3 billion, marking the largest urea plant in Latin America by production once complete.

The facility will include a large-scale ammonia plant and two parallel ultra-low energy urea trains, each with its own granulation unit, for a combined capacity of 6,000 metric tons per day, or 2.1 million tons per year. It will be built on an 80-hectare site within the Bahía Blanca Industrial Complex in Buenos Aires Province, next to Pampa's existing power generation assets, with direct access to gas pipelines, high-voltage transmission lines, water intake systems and a deep-water export port.
Tecnimont's scope covers engineering, procurement, commissioning and start-up activities. Nextchem was selected as technology provider, using Stamicarbon's urea melt and granulation licensing technology and process design package, along with the primary reformer for syngas production supplied by KT Tech; KBR is providing ammonia technology. Of the total €1.3 billion contract value, €140 million relates to Nextchem's technology package. SACDE S.A., an Argentine construction company, will handle overall project execution, with completion expected in 41 months.
Argentina's Fertilizer Supply Chain
MAIRE said the project is expected to create more than 3,500 direct jobs at peak construction, along with a significant number of indirect jobs across the supply chain, and to support local employment and the growth of Argentina's fertilizer production capacity.
