Collaborative Efforts for Environmental Innovation
The Brazilian startup umgrauemeio Climatech has recently secured R$ 18.7 million in funding, spearheading its mission to develop cutting-edge solutions to mitigate forest fires and reduce environmental impact. The investment round, initiated in December, witnessed participation from prominent investors such as The Yield Lab Latam, Rural Ventures, Indicator Capital, and Baraúna Investimentos.
The Yield Lab Latam, known for its extensive investment in early-stage startups, and Rural Ventures bring a wealth of experience and a broad network to support Umgrauemeio in its environmental endeavors. This collaboration aims to foster a comprehensive ecosystem, bolstering the development of new climate technologies, fintechs, and agtechs in a promising market.
Advancing Forest Fire Management and CO2 Reduction
Based in JundiaÃ, São Paulo, umgrauemeio has developed the Pantera platform, an all-in-one risk management and analysis solution that leverages Artificial Intelligence within a camera monitoring system. This innovative approach aims to improve the instant detection of smoke signals, combating forest fires, and reducing CO2 emissions efficiently.
Kieran Gartlan, Managing Director of The Yield Lab Latam, highlighted the strategic significance of the investment, emphasizing the urgency of addressing forest fires and carbon dioxide emissions to achieve sustainability goals. “We are excited about umgrauemeio and look forward to witnessing this investment’s positive impact,” Gartlan stated.
Impact and Vision for a Sustainable Future
Currently, umgrauemeio monitors over 17.5 million hectares across Brazil, including significant areas of forests, native areas, and agricultural land, utilizing more than 130 monitoring towers. With a revenue of R$ 19.2 million in 2023 and an estimated R$ 23.9 million in 2024, the startup’s impact is rapidly growing.
Rogério Cavalcante, founder and CEO of umgrauemeio, stressed the importance of early detection in mitigating the social, environmental, and economic impacts of forest fires. “Every fire starts small, capable of being extinguished by a single footstep,” Cavalcante remarked, emphasizing the company’s commitment to maintaining forest health as a cornerstone of a healthy economy and keeping the planet’s temperature rise below 1.5°C.
