ams OSRAM & Energous To Develop Multi-Spectral Light Sensor

ams OSRAM & Energous Collaboration

A wirelessly powered multi-spectral light sensor for controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) and vertical farming has been revealed as the result of a partnership between ams OSRAM and Energous. The WattUp PowerBridge from Energous and the multi-channel AS7343 spectrum sensor from ams OSRAM are the foundation of the combined solution. The sensors will be on display with live demonstrations at the Eenergous exhibit from January 5–8, 2023, at CES in Las Vegas.

In order to develop a wirelessly powered multi-spectral light sensor for controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) and vertical farming, Energous Corporation (NASDAQ: WATT) and ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS) have teamed together. The multi-channel AS7343 spectrum sensor from ams OSRAM and the WattUp PowerBridge from Energous is the foundation of the collaborative solution, which will be showcased live at the Energous booth at CES 2023 in Las Vegas from January 5 to 8, 2023.

Cesar Johnston, CEO of Energous, noted that changeable batteries and power lines might limit or complicate installations and need hands-on battery maintenance in a variety of situations, including CEA and vertical farming applications. “WattUp PowerBridge technology from Energy supplies a dependable supply of power concurrently to several devices, enabling more adaptable, waterproof gadget designs and lessening the constraints associated with keeping them fueled.” He commented on the company’s press release.

Through this collaboration, Energous and ams OSRAM are enabling the development of a wirelessly powered multi-spectral light sensor which may be used by farmers to optimize lighting for maximum results. It will also have the capability to compute photosynthetically available radiation (PAR).

“As controlled-environment agriculture and vertical farming technologies evolve swiftly, there is an increasing need to guarantee that field sensors are powered wirelessly and without batteries. Farmers may now control their lights in the most effective way possible thanks to these sensors”, according to Wim Renirie, vice president and general manager of ams OSRAM’s business line AWS. “We are presenting such multi-spectral light sensor technology through our partnership with Energous, which can assist ease this issue in horticulture and agriculture applications, including vertical farming.”
