Key Takeaways
- ENGIE signed a 48 MWac solar power purchase agreement with QTS to supply renewable energy to the data center operator’s operations in Irving, Texas.
- The deal was executed alongside a separate long-term PPA between ENGIE and ABEI Energy covering output from the roughly 61 MWac Lubio Solar project in Kaufman County, Texas.
- Lubio Solar is expected to generate about 150 GWh of electricity a year and avoid an estimated 100,778 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually once it reaches commercial operation.
- The agreement marks ABEI Energy’s first U.S. renewable energy deal with ENGIE, building on a partnership the two companies already have in Europe.
- ENGIE ranked first globally in BloombergNEF’s 2025 renewable corporate PPA benchmark, having signed 3.6 GW of new agreements in 2025 and 13.8 GW since 2011.
ENGIE and QTS Sign 48 MW Solar Deal for Texas Data Centers
ENGIE has signed a 48 MWac solar power purchase agreement with QTS to supply renewable electricity to the data center company’s operations in Irving, Texas, the two companies announced August 18, 2026. The agreement was executed in parallel with a separate, long-term PPA between ENGIE and ABEI Energy, which secures the underlying generation for the deal.
ABEI Energy to Develop Lubio Solar Project in Kaufman County
The generation tied to the QTS agreement comes from ABEI Energy’s Lubio Solar project, a roughly 61 MWac facility in Kaufman County, Texas, currently at the pre-commercial-operation stage. Once running, Lubio Solar is expected to produce about 150 GWh of electricity annually while avoiding an estimated 100,778 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. ABEI Energy describes itself as an independent power producer with operations in Europe, the United States, and Mexico, handling the development, financing, construction, and long-term operation of utility-scale renewable projects. The Lubio agreement is ABEI Energy’s first U.S. renewable energy transaction with ENGIE, extending a relationship the two firms built in Europe.
Data Center Demand Shapes the Deal
Growing electricity use from data centers running artificial intelligence and cloud computing workloads has pushed operators like QTS to lock in long-term renewable supply in Texas.
“This project is a meaningful step forward in our renewable energy strategy, supporting the long-term sustainability and operational resilience of our Texas footprint,” said Travis Wright, Vice President of Energy and Sustainability at QTS.
“Data center customers continue to seek long-term, dependable renewable energy solutions that align with both operational and sustainability goals,” said Taymur Bunkheila, Regional Vice President of Key Accounts and Energy+ at ENGIE North America.
ENGIE’s Growing Renewable Energy Portfolio
ENGIE ranked first globally in BloombergNEF’s 2025 renewable corporate PPA benchmark, signing 3.6 GW of new agreements during the year and reaching 13.8 GW of contracted capacity since 2011. The QTS and ABEI Energy deals add to that pipeline as the company expands its presence in the Texas renewable energy market.
