Key Takeaways

  • Ostara has launched a higher-analysis formulation of its CG P2X fertilizer, moving to a 9-42-0 with 9 Mg analysis that delivers nearly 30% more nitrogen and phosphorus per granule than the previous formulation.
  • The new analysis enables growers to achieve a 60–65% reduction in application rates versus MAP, DAP, NPS, and TSP, reducing handling, storage, and transportation requirements.
  • CG P2X delivers more than twice the plant-available nitrogen, phosphorus, and magnesium compared to conventional phosphate fertilizers, with nutrients released through biological processes driven by root activity and mycorrhizal fungi.
  • The product has been validated across 151 field trials, demonstrating consistent yield advantages across diverse soil types, pH levels, and management systems including conventional, air seeding, and no-till.
  • The updated 9-42-0 with 9 Mg formulation is available now.

Ostara Launches Higher-Analysis CG P2X Formulation with Nearly 30% More N and P

Ostara has announced an updated formulation of its CG P2X high-efficiency fertilizer, increasing the analysis to 9-42-0 with 9 Mg. The reformulation concentrates nearly 30% more nitrogen and phosphorus into each granule while maintaining the agronomic performance characteristics the product has established across diverse soils and growing environments. The updated product is available immediately.

The higher nutrient density allows growers to apply fewer pounds per acre to achieve equivalent or superior crop nutrition outcomes, directly reducing the volume of product that needs to be transported, stored, and handled. This positions the new formulation as a response to both agronomic and economic pressures on fertilizer efficiency in modern row crop production.

“This is a meaningful step forward in fertilizer efficiency. We've concentrated more plant-available nutrition into every granule so growers can move less product, apply fewer tons and still get superior, consistent performance in the field,” said Ron Restum, Chief Commercial Officer at Ostara.

Biologically Driven Nutrient Release and Application Flexibility

CG P2X operates differently from conventional soluble phosphate fertilizers. Rather than dissolving rapidly upon application — which exposes nutrients to soil fixation, runoff, and leaching — CG P2X releases nutrients in response to crop demand through biological mechanisms. As crops grow, roots release organic acids that unlock nutrients from the granule, while mycorrhizal fungi actively solubilise and transport those nutrients directly to the plant. This exchange occurs throughout the soil profile, making the product effective in broadcast, banded, air seeding, and no-till applications.

The result is more than twice the plant-available nitrogen, phosphorus, and magnesium compared to conventional phosphate sources such as MAP, DAP, NPS, and TSP, with a 60–65% reduction in required application rates on an equivalent-cost basis. By reducing nutrient losses to fixation and environmental pathways, CG P2X also helps limit contributions to water quality issues associated with fertilizer runoff and leaching.

Ostara Field Trial Performance and Agronomic Outcomes

Ostara cites a body of evidence from 151 trials supporting CG P2X's yield and efficiency advantage across soil types and production systems. Growers have reported strong performance across a range of soil pH levels, consistent results in both tillage and no-till systems, and improved nutrient uptake throughout the growing season. The new higher-analysis formulation is designed to amplify these existing advantages by delivering greater nutrition per tonne applied.

“No matter the soil, system or analysis, the outcome is the same: more consistent nutrient utilization and stronger crop performance. This new formulation amplifies that advantage by delivering more nutrition per ton, creating even greater operational and economic value for growers,” said Mike Howell, VP of Agronomy at Ostara.

The updated formulation also generates higher ROI through improved nutrient efficiency and reduced input intensity — a combination that Ostara positions as directly relevant to growers managing tighter margins in today's precision agriculture environment. CG P2X™ is a trademark of Ostara.
